Geneva 2008: Rinspeed sQuba, submergible absurdity

Click above for a high-res gallery of the Rinspeed sQuba concept. While the
Geneva Motor Show provides its own brand of ridiculousness, the Rinspeed crew takes the cake in Switzerland. We've already seen
the pics, the prosperously pompous video and have attempted to rationalize the
Rinspeed sQuba concept, but until we saw it in person, we just couldn't cope with the realization that a perfectly good Lotus Elise could be made into a pseudo-submarine. Well, we saw it. We shot it. And our necks are sore from shaking our heads.
Our
previous post on the sQuba concept tells the whole tale and we've assembled a gallery of live shots to prove that where there's an ill-advised will, there's a way.

as useless and ridiculous as this concept is, you gotta admit, it's gotten alot of press. as a lotus owner, you can't believe the number of emails i've gotten from people about this car, mostly non-"car guys" who saw this on yahoo news and forwarded the story. even my mother send me the article!!??

For ultra-authenticity shouldn't they have used an Esprit?

Just imagine the potential liability suits if this concept were ever sold to the public. It would be quite a rush though, driving into the water.

I'm just entertained that the car actually works and seems like it wouldn't be to difficult to do a limited run for well off 007 sorts.

If you can't beat them, drive into the lake...

More pictures of the model in the wetsuit? ^_^
falloutagain @ Mar 5th 2008 1:16PM
its gotten more mainstream press than a lot of other cars and concepts - good choice having models in wetsuits... although wet tshirts might have been effective as well.

Rinspeed is all about what can be done if you throw money at an IDEA. I think this is better than most concepts.

Entertaining idea, offer your employees rides at the company picnic. How much does this thing cost?
