Tour the USA in under 4 minutes with a little help from Lacquer
Check out this music video for Lacquer's Behind. Maybe some of you will scoff at it being featured here on Autoblog, but it speaks to motorists, adventurers and travelers who like voyages on America's highways and byways. It starts with an old convertible parked at the Pacific Ocean, and turns into a journey across our continent. Coast to coast the driver covers the whole of the USA in under four minutes with the use of some snappy time-lapse photography, as directed by filmmaking brothers Michel (Be Kind Rewind, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) and Olivier Gondry. Beautiful scenery and gorgeous skylines abound, as well as some good music. Thanks for the tip Mark!

Amazing video. Thanks for posting this.
It's a shame the song puts me to sleep, though.

I liked that alot. That was pretty cool video. I loved how they only used the top when it rained.
Radix @ Mar 1st 2008 4:21PM
My car would have broken down somewhere around the 31 second mark.
Stuka @ Mar 1st 2008 4:20PM

3seriesisking @ Mar 1st 2008 4:29PM
Agreed. I don't remember where I've seen it before but it is still really cool. I'm sure those who haven't seen the video before appreciate seeing it here on the site.

What's better than driving from LA to NY in an American-made convertible?
This vid will never get old.

That video was an inspiration for me when I first saw it over a year ago. I've done timelapse footage of my vintage car drives before ( http://www.goolsbee.org/roadtrip/ ) but always out the windshield. This video got me thinking about other perspectives, and captured almost my entire summer roadtrip last year:

Not as well produced as the reference, but fun anyway.
I had ordered a wide-angle adapter for my camera but it did not arrive in time to be used, unfortunately. It will for my next trip!

Not just ANY old convertible. It appears to be about a 1965 or 1966 Chrysler convertible (judging by the dash shape and the windows), a series of car that was one of the best of the time. Built when Chrysler Corporation built a hell of a good car. I still have fond memories of my mother's '66 Plymouth Sport Fury convertible. Uncle had only been in our automotive faces about a year at that point, Datsun/Nissan was still importing what was essentially a Hillman copy, and Toyotas were ghastly.

Wow!
My best buddy Bill and I did the same trip - in reverse - in 1980 in a 1963 Dodge Dart ragtop that I picked up in a salvage yard.
One of the BEST drives in my life!

OOOOOOLLLLLLLDDDDDDDDD
Hank @ Mar 1st 2008 5:26PM
i've never seen this until now, so thanks for posting
makes me want to do a crosscountry drive too, hmm maybe this summer...
Vik @ Mar 1st 2008 6:29PM
Stuka, Greg, etc.- so what if the video is old? It has not been posted on Autoblog before, and it is likely that thousands of readers have never seen it before. Remember that you do not have to read (much less comment on) every single post you see. If it's old or if you're otherwise not interested, why take the time to click on it and comment on it? That is, unless you have no life to speak of.
Galley @ Mar 1st 2008 6:33PM
1. It must've been cold with the top down.
2. They must've had a security person guard the camera when the car was parked at night to keep a crackhead from stealing it.
D. @ Mar 1st 2008 6:53PM
That car has damn good gas mileage. Not one stop for gas! Toyota could learn a thing or two from the 60's:)
FThorn @ Mar 1st 2008 8:26PM
I thought I saw Nashville, TN in there. Why oh WHY would they go through Nashville? I-70 dudes
press photo guy @ Mar 1st 2008 11:39PM
Explain so I will know when I go there!!!
Bran @ Mar 2nd 2008 2:39AM
stick to route 66 if you have the time and are going cross country. I figure they got off and went through nashville for personal reasons, weather or distance. Tennessee is an easy choice coming off of 66 in Oaklahoma, not to mention Virginia. Best drive of my life coming from San Diego through Vegas, Grand Canyon, New Mexico, 66 in general. I've also gone I-70. From Denver to the west coast is great, Denver to east coast is a bit of a drag scenery-wise.
FThorn @ Mar 2nd 2008 8:35AM
Yes, I thought it had to be personal reasons, too. But that diversion while heading EAST added a LOT of time to their journey.
tr @ Mar 1st 2008 8:36PM
Cool video, I had not seen it before.
Thanks!
