I don't see what the big deal is. People tout GPS, radio, hands free cell phones, multimedia (dvd) systems. This is the next step, one I'm surprised wasn't taken much sooner. It won't be long before cars drive themselves on the interstates and you'll have nothing better to do than browse websites, like Autoblog.

Even if BMW limited the access to non-Drive mode so the driver won't be tempted (which I don't know if they do or not) there will be people who get a hack so they can surf and drive.
Like you stated, when we aren't driving our cars ourselves in the future, it is a fine idea.
Do you think that BMW was the first to be *able* to do this technology? Of course not. Other companies just had more common sense apparently.
