Pontiac and Red Bull will field a two car team for 2008 Formula Drift season

With the cancellation of any D1 Grand Prix drift action in the United States this year, the Formula D season should keep drift-addicts entertained when it gets underway on April 12th in Long Beach, California. Last season closed with Tanner Foust and his AEM Nissan 350Z being crowned champion, and Foust's multiple motorsports wins in 2007 (he also captured the X-Games rally title) garnered him increased attention and sponsorship deals. In fact, Rockstar Energy Drink has now ditched Daijiro Yoshihara and Pacific Rim to pair up with Tanner Foust and AEM for 2008. No matter for Go Go Daijiro though, as Rhys Millen conveniently had his number. Looking to expand the Pontiac Red Bull crew, Millen could not pass up the opportunity to snatch up the two time 2007 event winner in need of a ride. Millen's old Pontiac GTO will come out of retirement for Yoshihara to pilot in 2008.

I for the life of me can't understand why anyone appreciates this "motorsport". I didn't think anything could be more useless than nascar, but here it is.

Anything that relies on 'judges' to determine the outcome shouldn't be considered a sport.
Make it a 'side by side' mountain race with a finish line and then you can call it a motorsport.

i don't think it's all that great either but red bull, bridgestone and even GM thinks so. and if you're over 30 and remember the good old days of ronald reagan, your opinion doesn't matter on this subject anyways.
it's the youth market they're all after. for the rest of us, might as well turn up the duran duran and drive home to our 2.5 kids in our buick enclaves....

I'm under 30, and I still hate it, and I love tuner cars. I just think that this is a waste of time.

Haters who just love to hate aside;
It's good to see Dai in some quality equipment for '08. Maybe now he'll pick up that championship is nearly won last year. I'd love to get his old S15 racer...

Drifting is a motorsport and NO drifting is not racing.
Is BMX a sport? Is guys doing tricks on ramps with their boards a sport? Those are all judged.
Also YES I'M OVER 30 and my opinions count.

April 12th?
I think the Champ Car race weekend is April 18-20. That's what www.longbeachgp.com says, too. After all, that is the weekend that was part of the remaining obstacles of the Champ Car/IRL merger because the IRL's race at the Twin Ring Motegi was originally scheduled for that weekend.

I think I'm wrong. The Formula Drift web site says the 2008 season opener is April 12, 2008. That's pretty weird as I thought they usually share the weekend with the Long Beach GP.
