If Alfa had any sense, they would have made this car with their 3.2 liter V6 and priced it to compete against the Boxster, Z4, TT, ect. Instead, to announce the return of Alfa to the US, they make a limited production 'halo' car that costs several hundred thousand dollars. It's as if they want to fail. As an Alfa owner, I love them but I just shake my head at the absolute incompetence of their business philosophy.

wilsonce01

Comments on Geneva '08 Preview: Alfa Romeo to unveil production 8C Spider

I agree 1000000%

meshies

Comments on Geneva '08 Preview: Alfa Romeo to unveil production 8C Spider

It is possible this is a launch car to draw attention to their brand, of course. Most large car companies do this with concepts, which are either made, and\or show up in parts in other cars for years to come. There is a crease on the side that flows into the front wheel arch. Such a crease in and of itself isn't that unique, plenty of cars have concave side contours, but the way it's integrated into the front end is stunning.

That crease visually carries over the fender and back onto the side of the car the line that begins at the 'Enzo/F1 w/ an Alfa grille' nose. What's particularly cool is that this works from every angle I've seen photographed. In the photo above you can see how the line arcs from the nose to the flank. It gives the 8c a great sense of motion, even when standing still.

Fender gills.

ronnie schreiber

Comments on Geneva '08 Preview: Alfa Romeo to unveil production 8C Spider

Sorry about that. All the safety rules and regulations, the design-by-committee nature of today’s automobiles…. There is just no way to reproduce that level of beauty in sheet metal anymore.

Then Alfa Romeo proved me wrong.

The 8C is indeed in the same class as the E-type, and deserving of it’s moniker as well. I imagine it will do for Alfa what the old 8C did for it in the last century.

–chuck
http://chuck.goolsbee.org

chuck goolsbee
