"The real reason Toyota is worried about Hyundai is because they can build most of their cars a lot cheaper in their own country. Hyundai's three year quality is still no where close to Toyota's."
-------------
Again - Brian W w/ his incorrect ramblings.
There is little price advantage in labor, etc. costs that Hyundai has in manufacturing in Korea as opposed to Japan - esp. since the won has appreciated considerably against the dollar while the yen has weakened.
As for the 3-year quality results - Hyundai only started to focus on quality 7 yrs ago and since then, has closed the gap w/ Toyota (just 1 point below Toyota and Honda in the UMichigan/Ross CSI index; plus, it's not the V-6 Sonata that CR gave a black circle to, but the Camry V-6).

"I actually talked to a Hyundai employee about launching a seperate brand, but he was like "what the hell are we gonna do with ONE car?"
It's amazing how so many people are incapable of getting this simple concept (plus, consumers aren't ready for a prestige brand from Hyundai until it is seen as being equitable w/ Toyota/Honda/Nissan - and the Genesis sedan and coupe are just the models to do that).
