eBay Find of the Day: #43 Challenger auction has begun

We've seen the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 in Orange, Black and Silver now, but the most sought after color for the car's first model year will undoubtedly be Blue, or rather B5 Blue if you want to get technical. That's the color that adorns Challenger #43, a rolling tribute to Richard Petty that is currently up for auction on eBay Motors until Friday, February 22nd. The Smurfy hue is meant to replicate the Petty Blue, or Corporate Blue, that covered The King's race cars during his stock car racing career.
Challenger #1 already sold for $400,000 at the Barrett-Jackson Auction in Scottsdale, AZ last month, while Challenger #2 was sold off in a closed auction for dealers only. We're betting that this one-of-a-kind Challenger beats them both on the block, because not only do you get the car, but Dodge is throwing in two VIP passes to the May 2008 Dodge Challenger 500 NASCAR race at Darlington Raceway, travel and lodging for the event, and a meet-and-greet with Kyle Petty. The auction began with a starting bid of $25,000 and has grown to $52,100 in just a couple of days.
All the proceeds are going to the Victory Junction Gang, which is a charity founded by Kyle Petty in honor of his son, Adam, that works to improve the lives of children with chronic illnesses. Thanks for the tip, everyone!

Yikes. 8 days to go and over $50g's already.
"Q. How many miles will be on the Challenger #43?
A. Vehicle will be delivered new. "
That's not the same as "0"

I'm not sure if this blue is the same also offered on the Charger SRT8.

If you've never seen it in person it's a striking color. I hope it reappears on the Challenger R/T for 2009 along with the other Charger Daytona colors like Top Banana, Sublime, Torred and Plum Crazy.

>>> Actually, the Challenger doesn't look too bad in that shade of blue. And it will indeed be a special collector's limited edition.
Not too mention the proceeds going to a worthy cause. This sounds like a win-win situation to me.

I am so TIRED of seeing this car day in and day out on this board. It is so overpriced.

* Xcountry - You think this is over priced???
If and when the Maro comes out in my lifetime, they will be mostly 6 cyl. Then some green machine 'a la hybrid' etc.
Finally, they may or may not drop a decent motor in there since GM is planning to kill their V8 pgm altogether. Then, you may want it to be a cabrio?
So, once upon a time there was a car. When a dealer finally gets his hands on a 'Real' muscle car Cabrio, he's going to ask at least 2x MSRP I say. It will make the GTR markup look like tip for an espresso coffee.

That car just isn't the same when it's not wearing some orange paint.

With all the pictures of this car, I actually think orange is among the worst. This blue is marginally better, but black takes the cake. It just looks angry and damn sexy in black.

Hopefully when the car hits the second year of production you'll be able to order the car sans stripes. As much as I love this car, "carbon fiber look stripes" is kinda ricey. At least can we just get the stripes in flat black or gloss black?

Hummm... I remember when the PT Crusier was suppose to be a "limited" run vehicle, I wonder if the Challenger will have the same fate.

Actually ----- B5 blue wasn't the paint code for "Petty Blue."
B5 blue was the rich, medium metallic blue.....and you saw a lot of Dodge Rams in this same color around 10 years ago, too.
"Petty Blue," the powder-blue-ish lighter non-metallic color, was paint code C37D, and offered in 1970 only. It was also a Special Order paint color, which would have been code "999."
Just to keep you new-school Mopar nuts well-informed! :)

There is something "wrong" with the front end of the Challenger........ The original had a much better "face." Oh, and SOME people simply have TOO MUCH MONEY!

Wow, that's a nice car. Sweet. I had a slot car version of it when I was a kid. Unfortunately that's about as close as I'll ever get to owning one! :-)
