HUMMER rolls into Russia, grows extra wheels

Click to view more images in our gallery
During the Cold War, militaristic hardliners always harbored the hope that one day they'd see American army vehicles rolling through Moscow. Well, that day has long since arrived, though commerce won the day, not military force. What they didn't account for in their contingency plans was what would happen to their vehicles when they crossed through the slowly-decaying nuclear fallout around Chernobyl: this HUMMER's grown extra wheels!
The image above and the gallery below were snapped in the Russian capital by someone who evidently managed to contain his disgust just long enough to hold down the shutter, like some Manhattan-project researcher. Only in Moscow, of course, with their strange affection for further mutating already monstrous SUVs.

Well if it's a 6x6 (all wheels have drive) then it's actually a pretty sound upgrade. I saw a video of a 6x6 Dodge Ram T-Rex not too long ago (on Streetfire.net), and the truck was effortlessly climbing up hills that dedicated 4x4 jeeps and sand-rails were having trouble with. For the streets I might have a problem with a 6x6 hummer, but with increased towing capacity, increased cargo room/passenger room, and increased off-road ability it may make a viable upgrade for people like me who often tow heavy loads through wide open spaces.

In Soviet Russia you do not drive a hummer, the hummer drives you.

The more mutated the better. I gotta have one of these trucks. It takes obnoxious to the next level.

Last year, in the St. Patty's day parade in St Louis, I saw a 6x6 Hummer and a 8x8 Hummer. This one is kind of small, actually.

The drive transfer os pretty simple in this case- just involves a custom GM 14 bolt as the 2nd axle. The stock axle winds up as the 3rd axle. usa6x6 has a really clever system for this.
As bad as Russian roads can be, I can think of worse modes of transport for the well-to-do comrade.
