According to D Magazine, at a private lunch, GM chairman Maximum Bob Lutz said global warming is a "total crock of shit." Bob adds "I'm a skeptic, not a denier. Having said that, my opinion doesn't matter." Speaking about the battery-driven Volt, Lutz said, "I'm motivated more by the desire to replace imported oil than by the CO2 [argument]." At the lunch Bob also said hybrids like the Prius make "make no economic sense" and the Volt is exciting for him because "it's the last thing anybody expected from GM." Don't hold back Bob, tell us what you really think.

UPDATE: Lutz doesn't back down.

      15. And people wonder why GM's not more into EVs and hybrids than they are :)

      Wise:
No, GM has made the most progress of any. I wonder why others are doing nothing. I see action galore from GM. Why not ask Toyota when they plan to discontinue the new line of gargantuan vehicles that they are producing? If not for Bob Lutz, the Volt would not get built. Furthermore -- Toyota is only following suit to build a plug hybrid and no real plans of a Volt counterpart, but thanks to Lutz, they will have to.

By the way, Lutz, last time I checked, is a scientist (an engineer and one of the best to have ever lived.) Why do average people get off on calling brilliant people dumb?

I wonder what the overlap is between the climate change deniers now and the folks that, until quite recently, were loudly proclaiming that the Prius was a foolish idea that would never work and never gain mass acceptance? (They hardly ever pop up any more, have you noticed?) But it looks like Lutz is still claiming that Prius is a failure, which demonstrates his obdurate resistance to blatantly obvious facts. Of course he doesn't believe in climate change.

We need to start stressing "meme"'s last point:

Solar Variability is ALREADY IN THE MODEL(s).
There are No Model's of Climate Change that FORGOT ABOUT THE SUN.

Come on Wise, there is a Global Drought also going on. With Global Rainfall pattern changes. None of that is "Good". God helps those who help themselves.

RIGHT ON, LUTZ !! Bout time someone of significance had the guts to stand up to all the "global warming" hysteria and bullshit. There are plenty of scientists extant that don't buy the trendy hysteria, but are besmirched if they say anything.

The only thing GM ever built right was the EV1 Electric car! It NEVER had problems and not one of the over 1000 cars that they built in 9 years even had to have brake pads replaced!.. GM did not want anyone to know about it. Every single car was taken back from their owner who leased them and then crushed and destroyed, even though every single owner offered to buy them. This was the first time this has happened in the history of the automobile! GM never wanted to sell this car to anyone this is why it was never advertised even though it was built for almost 10 years! Watch the movie ("Who Killed the Electric Car") The EV1 was replaced with the "Hummer".... Take time and think why would all of the auto builders want to keep building all of these oversized SUV's and Trucks? When the average person drives less then 29 miles a day and when have you ever see any of these Gas Hog SUV's off road!..... What a Joke!... And they are the one's laughing all the way to the bank!

We are being lied to people! Time to wake up!
If they can make a 9 volt battery put out 600,000 volts in a stun gun then what could they do in an Electric car.
Just think of how much would be saved...No Engine, No Valves, No Pistons, No Spark Plugs, No Timing Belt, No Crankshaft, No Transmission, No Starter,
No Tune-Up's, No Gas, No Clutch, No Exhaust, No Muffler, No More Smog Checks, No Dipsticks and No Oil Changes!

Now check this out... www.zapworld.com www.teslamotors.com
There are hundreds more if you do a search! They want to keep us in Big, Oversized Gas Hogs! Because they make the most money that way!

"As far as experts go it was just a few hunderd years ago that 99.9% of all scientist believed that not only was the world flat but that the sun revolved around it."

Your ignorance of history is truly amazing. How old do you think empirical science is, anyway? Do you think there where thousands of scientists running around in lab coats during Galileo's time who disagreed with him?

If fact, what you mean to say is that 99.9% of people alive at the time (the vast majority of whom were not what we would call scientists, since that title DID NOT EVEN EXIST YET) disagreed with one of the very earliest founders of the scientific method, who turned out to be right.

This completely, completely reverses your point.

Well Bob how were those profits last quarter? How's that marketing plan working for you? I don't know what size shoe you wear, but you might want to pull it out of you mouth and then the other one out of your ass.

Whatever it is that Toyota or Honda are doing it seems to be working. You need to start have a vision of what the consumers want, not continue down the path of the past.

Ignorant old fart. He is backward enough to work for FEMA. He is obviously wasting his talents at GM.
