According to D Magazine, at a private lunch, GM chairman Maximum Bob Lutz said global warming is a "total crock of shit." Bob adds "I'm a skeptic, not a denier. Having said that, my opinion doesn't matter." Speaking about the battery-driven Volt, Lutz said, "I'm motivated more by the desire to replace imported oil than by the CO2 [argument]." At the lunch Bob also said hybrids like the Prius make "make no economic sense" and the Volt is exciting for him because "it's the last thing anybody expected from GM." Don't hold back Bob, tell us what you really think.

UPDATE: Lutz doesn't back down.

I remember talking to my ancestors and during the ice age they were concerned that the world was coming to an end , They thought that the new warmth over the earth would lead to plant life growing wild and it would eventually take over the earth making it impossible to sustain life as they knew it. That was real real global warming and how many years ago was that? Life on easrth is inn cycles , so a few penguins die and polar bears , what the hell , the dinosaurs are all gone as a result of climate change . Grow up

I am a recycler from the 60s but I want a solid car that gives me all the comfort anyone would want or need. I drive a 07 DTS Cadillac and love every minute on the road. Going from coast to coast is a breeze, and gas wise costs me less than my wonderful tough 05 Tundra.

Face it... The Japaneese make better vehicles... my family has 2 Nissans (Armada and Altima)-- Why did I get the Armada over the Tahoe?? It was 10,000 cheaper.. got better gas mileage.. was a smoother ride.. and looked a hell of alot better.. and we wonder why people are buying imports over American??

I wonder what the overlap is between the climate change deniers now and the folks that, until quite recently, were loudly proclaiming that the Prius was a foolish idea that would never work and never gain mass acceptance? (They hardly ever pop up any more, have you noticed?) But it looks like Lutz is still claiming that Prius is a failure, which demonstrates his obdurate resistance to blatantly obvious facts. Of course he doesn't believe in climate change.

A guy over at GM-Volt.com said it well. He said, "we are all arguing as to what side of the ship to lower the life boats." Makes sense considering that we all have the same end objective, why should our motives for getting there matter? Lots of people on this thread saying the same thing. In the end, it only causes un-necessary friction for Bob to be quoted this way, although I assure you he did not intend to be quoted, he is none the less entitled to his opinion (which I share.)

Actions speak louder than words. Obviously, Bob has said that he is motivated by a desire to help America achieve energy independance (my motivation as well.) He will most likely do more to achieve this than any other human on Earth, and he'll be dragging the Environment along for the ride, so let's lay off the personal attacks of his charactor. And you know what else, let's cut a break to the company that has taken a lead among all companies, in providing consumers with a choice of personal transoprtation technologies -- namely GM.

Wow, it's amazing how many idiots are on this board. Did you know we as human beings do less than 1% good or bad to the earth's climate? In fact, if you really want to stop global warming maybe you should kill all the cows throughout the world cause there ass pumps more methane into the air then anyone else, that includes al gore and his lincoln. Now suck farts from my asshole

"He will most likely do more to achieve this than any other human on Earth"

Bhahaha, I almost fell out of my chair laughing. I think we just discovered Bob Lutz ABG nome de plume.

Seriously Bob doesn't do much of anything except run around making outrageous statements. He is the class clown of the auto industry.

Re: Take a box and fill it with air. Shine an ifrared lamp at it. Measure how much heat the air absorbs... etc etc ..

yes, you are correct, the earth = a box filled with air ..

      Stop the research everyone..

I found it to be 22 below 0 in Antarctica and there was a volcano below that caused the "beach" to be steaming hot and caused the ice to melt, this made it possible to swim. Then when I rafted the Grand Canyon it was 130F at night. When I was in Tanzania......well you get the idea. My question is; what’s the right temperature?
Is it where the most “smart” white people live? Global warming is a natural cycle caused by global procession and sun activity, man made global warming is a joke played on the ignorant masses. If you think about for one second, it’s a dream come true for politicians. If you doubt it, do your own research lemming: Why are all of the planets in our solar system warming at the same rate. Sorry...humans are just not that important.

We should listen to him? Didn't GM just lose $39 Billion last year under his leadership? Isn't Toyota, which is the largest producer of fuel efficient cars, just about ready to overtake GM in sales? I'm sure all those laid off or soon to be laid off GM workers support him wholeheartedly.

Forty years ago, with the advent of high flying jet airplanes, scientists predicted the rapid onset of another ice age due to the reduction of sunlight caused by jet vapor trails. I'm not kidding!
