GM to list all certified used vehicles on eBay Motors
eBay Motors and General Motors have announced a new agreement that will see the automaker's entire inventory of certified used vehicles go up on the digital block of the internet's most popular auction service. GM doesn't say exactly how many vehicles it will add to eBay Motors' listings, but there are currently over 3,900 dealerships selling certified used vehicles for the General. For its part, eBay Motors will be charging GM dealers zilch to list their certified used vehicles for sale on its site, which is a much better deal than you get when trying to unload that '99 Malibu.[Source: GM, Photo by Rick Gershon/Getty ]
PRESS RELEASE:
GM Certified Used Vehicles To List Entire National Inventory On EBay Motors
Top-Selling Certified Brand and Largest Online Auto Marketplace Team Up to Raise Consumer Awareness, Drive Leads to GM Dealers
DETROIT – GM Certified Used Vehicles, the industry's top-selling manufacturer-certified used vehicle brand*, announced it has reached an agreement to collaborate in a variety of areas with eBay Motors (www.ebaymotors.com), the Internet's largest marketplace for buying and selling all things automotive, to support the 3,900-plus GM Certified Used Vehicles dealers in the U.S.
As a first step, GM Certified Used Vehicles commits to list their entire national inventory on eBay Motors at no cost to dealers. The agreement provides exposure of GM Certified Used Vehicles dealer inventory in a classified listings format to more than 11 million unique eBay Motors visitors a month.
Together, the two companies will develop marketing and other offerings designed to drive leads and sales to dealers. GM Certified Used Vehicles dealers will benefit from increased exposure of their vehicle inventory and branding on eBay Motors while car buyers will benefit from the wide selection and convenient online-shopping experience provided by eBay Motors.
eBay Motors is consistently ranked the No. 1 automotive Web site, with 34 percent of all automotive minutes on the Web spent on eBay Motors, according to Nielsen//NetRatings.
There are also future plans to allow dealers to opt-in to complement this new offering with additional packages and features, such as eBay Motors Local Market, a subscription-based service that enables automotive dealers to easily upload and list their entire used-car lot for one low price, increasing the impact and visibility of their specific inventory on eBay Motors. These additional options for dealers are currently scheduled to become available during the second quarter of this year.
"The eBay Motors agreement means that GM Certified dealers will have millions more eyeballs looking at their inventory, and more traffic drives sales," said Mark Mathews, director, GM Used Vehicle Activities. "Teaming with eBay Motors provides shoppers with convenient access to all GM Certified inventory and continues GM Certified's commitment to interactive marketing. We now offer our dealers the most comprehensive program in the industry, listing their inventory on more than 300 websites."
"Dealers understand consumers are migrating online to find their next vehicle," said Rob Chesney, vice president, eBay Motors, Marketplaces. "eBay Motors creates a rich shopping experience for consumers and drives more qualified leads to dealers through exposure to more than 11 million unique online-automotive shoppers a month."

I think every event should be. All sports tickets, etc. Get rid of the scalpers and maximize your income by getting the market value.

Maybe some new jobs opening up on either a Dealership, eBay, or GM side?
Interesting someone is going to get paid to take pictures and post cars on eBay.

Not so much. It's mainly just a big data push from GM to E-bay. They already do this with Autotrader. Most dealerships already have people taking pictures of their inventory or are paying a company to do it for them. That's the beauty of the internet and current computer technology. Most of it can be automated.

won't this lower the price of used GM cars?
As they will be competing against other used cars sold by owners, and used car dealerships.I think GM would be better off just make a data base available on GM site of used vehicles that can easily be searched maybe similar to ebay motors but not on ebay itself. How many people have a bad taste about buying cars over the web, sight unseen?

I agree with "the law" (man that just sounds wrong).
Some of the worst feedback offenders on Ebay motors are actually BIG dealerships trying to lure customers in through another portal. The problem is large dealers generally DON'T understand how Ebay works. The NUMBER 1 complaint of customers buying cars through ebay from large dealers is "the dealer sold the car before I ever got there".
This is going be even more pervasive adding thousands of dealers who have never dealt with anything more than a simple website with inventory, IF that. Not to mention that yes, the cars will do poorly on Ebay if prices are not adjusted to reflect pervailing market conditions. And with GM, Mercedes, BMW... pick any one, their certified cars are ALWAYS priced WELL over the market.

Now everyone can search the completed listings and see the poor resale value of GM brands'. Good move!

WOW. Unlike GM to be ahead of the curve - this is huge.

Is that possible?

For those buying a used car sight unseen, you deserve what you get- therefore selling garbage to the uninformed works perfectly for both parties.

Now if they put them all up No Reserve, that would be something, and I bet would get people really excited. Of course GM does not have the faith in the market. Expect to see a lot of vehicles with reserves not being met.
Seems a little eBay spamish to me.

As An eBay Buyer..I Really Hate to see that eBay.com is ruining the lively hood of so many Honest and Disabled and Veteran Sellers!!!!... Many Of The Smaller Sellers Who Helped Build eBay Have No Other Way To Make A Living!!....I Think Sellers Should Take Control!...And, A Strike May Be Most Definitely In Order!!!!!...If most of the Sellers abandoned their listings for a Week or MORE!! and Buyers "Don't Bid Or Browse"..It May bring eBay Management to their Senses!!...My Favorite Business Management Professor at GA. TECH always said "If It Ain't Broke...Don't Try to Fix It" ...In My Humble Opinion....The Proposed Feedback Change and the 21 Day Paypal.com Holding Period might be "Unconstitutional" & "Illegal"...."One Sided Feedback" may be a violation of the "Equal Protection Clauses" in the the various State and the Federal Constitutions!!.....Additionally....Both The New "Unequal Feedback Policy" and the "21 Day Holding Period" may require that eBay act as a "Law Enforcement Agency" and a "Court Of Law " in order to settle contractual disputes between Buyers and Sellers!!..Both Of These Actions May Be Extremely Illegal!!.... We Need To Help Ebay Save Itself!!....If One Strike doesn't work, Sellers may need to do it Again and Again--->Until it Does Work!! .... Hopefully!!, Persistent Sellers Will Convince eBay Management to Withdraw these proposed changes and return to Business As Normal Before The Law Enforcement Agencies and The Federal/State Courts Bring Them DOWN!! I have heard that One Of The Best Civil Trial Lawyers in Atlanta may be just waiting until the proposed changes take place before filing a multi billion dollar Class Action Lawsuit (On Behalf Of "ALL" SELLERS) against eBay, Paypal and their new cohort General Motors for Violation of the "Equal Protection and Numerous Other Clauses" Of The US Constitution!....Additionally....He may be requesting that US Magistrates and the Attorney General issue Felony Criminal Warrants requesting immediate arrest of all eBay Management and all employees involved in making feedback decisions(in which they act as a Law Enforcement Agency...AND... A Court Of Law!!) I Am Afraid That "Good Attorneys" and an almost Trillion Dollar "Class Action Suit" may Bankrupt eBay, Paypal and General Motors!! It will be interesting to see how much it will cost eBay, Paypal and Genral Motors to reimburse all of the Sellers that are being be forced to leave eBay and give up their only source of income because of these New Feedback and Paypal Rules!!!! .....Maybe Trillions!! ....My Professor Also Said..."Nothing Is "Forever"...Except Death And Taxes!!....STRIKE VICTOROUSLY!!
