We wouldn't quite call ourselves fans of the Fast and Furious franchise, but we're getting more and more impressed with this newest iteration of the Subaru Impreza WRX STI. We'll admit that it's hardly the most attractive hatch on the road, but its blend of planted purposefulness and flared fenders have slowly made converts out of some of us.
Could it be made uglier? Most certainly. But the crew at Veilside are supplying a kit for the new STI that will make its debut in the new Fast and Furious sequel. The Rally Blue 'Rex is getting a full work-over at a shop in Southern California before Paul Walker (aka Brian O'Connner) takes the helm and our friends at ExhaustNote.com were able to supply some pics in the midst of modifications. While the new front bumper and precariously placed spoiler might not suit everyone's taste, the full roll cage could mean that better (non-CG, please) stunts are on the way.

I like how Autoblog says this car is for the GONZO racing crowd. I like the STIs quirky looks and think it makes me quite gonzo myself.

I may get boo'd for this but I love the FnF franchise. You have to go into it expecting exactly what it's selling, a fun non-thinking movie with a bunch of cool cars and cool stunts. While the CG stunts in 2F2F were over the top, I enjoyed the scene with paul walker and tyrese racing down the interstate being chased by vipers, ferraris, and one unfortunate Saleen mustang. I'm looking forward to seeing vin and paul back together. Hopefully there will be something nice for them to drive like the supra or one of the skylines from either of the first two movies

While I don't love the franchise, I found myself strangely drawn into watching the movies when they were on TV.... they're definitely not good movies, but the car action was worth the lame plot and acting.

Great...
That is going to be all kinds of beneficial for Subaru's image.
I am sorry, but this car is hideous. And if this car starts getting more acclaim, Subaru is going to think it doesn't matter that it is badly designed as it truly is.
This is going to enable more bad design, and promote the ugly impreza over the ignored Legacy even more than it already is.
If this kind of enabling behavior causes Subaru to think that bad design is a good idea, and they ruin the design of the next Legacy iteration as well, there are going to be some truly unhappy Subaru customers, when they come around to replace their Legacy GT sedans and wagons.
And a future ugly Impreza, and a future ugly Legacy are not going to gather sales from competitors.
I'll be visiting the Mazda and Infiniti dealers, or something.

fugly beyond belief, and i thought tokyo drifts cars were raped
SilverAero @ Feb 7th 2008 6:15PM
Great,it has a hood scoop, they will need that for routing air directly into the drivers ass.
John Johnson @ Feb 8th 2008 9:56AM
Routing air into the drivers ass and onto the intercooler which cools the superheated air that is going to enter the engine.
What a tool. "Oh man, it looks better than my Metro, it must be rice!"
ugg.tryptophan @ Feb 7th 2008 6:19PM
that would be awesome, but i hope this thing crashes horribly and explodes
judd @ Feb 7th 2008 6:19PM
Probably because you can't double clutch on the EVO X.
Pete @ Feb 7th 2008 6:37PM
It's really not an overdone kit. It's not shogun...I don't see the problem. It looks good from what I can tell, but I'll have to see the finished product to be sure.
