Chicago 2008: Scion tC Release 4.0 in the flesh

click above to view more live high-res pics of the Scion tC Release 4.0
If you saw our preview of the Scion tC Release 4.0 and want more, you're in luck 'cause we've spotted it here in Chicago. We already knew pretty much all there was to know about the machine, including the DAMD body kit and Galactic Gray Mica paint. As is often the case, though, live photos seem to show more detail than official pics from the manufacturer, so be sure to check out our live photos in the gallery below. If you like what you see, perhaps you should act fast, only 2,300 of the 4.0s are going to be built. We're sure that Scion will sell all of them, but we think the tC is in need of a bit more freshening than this version 4.0 offers.

Complete waste of money at this price point. A base MazdaSpeed3 for only a few grand more doesn't amount to much more if the kids are financing. Seriously this Scion is all Bling no Balls.

Am I the only one who thinks that looks like the new focus with a bit less plastic?

Montana, A littlebut We have to give Toyota some credit for not glueing on faux vents behind the front wheel wells like the Fix Often Repair Daily engineers did on the Foci

avus: Ya, I'd say that's just another tC, but slightly modified. Doesn't appear to be another RS4.0 though. Just a random tC that might have a color close to the RS.
And even with "live" pictures... this is still very underwhelming.

In it's defense, I think they are trying to jump on the whole VIP bandwagon that Japan is into these days. They should have took it to the extreme and added the silly curtains =)

Pity the 4.0 doesn't refer to displacement... holy passing power and torque steer, Batman.

Can we just call it the Corolla coupe and call it a day. I see Scion coming to a screeching halt with a press release saying, "Our mission is complete to introduce a whole new generation to Toyota." Unfortunately that generation was the Baby Boomers!

My only comment is that those pictures really do nothing for the subject. The new features mainly being the ground effects are only visible in 3 of the 9 photos. Every other angle the stupid side rail is blocking the view, what gives!
It's still a stock tC otherwise. If I wanted to see that I'd look in my driveway.

As an scion owner I would agree with some of the comments, I feel that they are taking the rs series a little far. the only thing they drop the ball on is that they havent produce a proformance tC, but they did what they wanted to do make a car the that was affordable and where you could customize to your liking. Yeah they projected this car at the youth but to tell you the truth I've seen more older people in scion the younger.for some reason this car is not sold in japan , it is manufactured in japan but it has to be imported from the U.S. And to finish if you havent seen what a scion tC can do NOT STOCK then you shouldnt down the proformance of the!
