There's only a limited number of ways you can make taillights look attractive. Stray much (**cough**MKZ**cough) and you end up with something that the market may not accept.
It's really getting tiring, reading pages of pages of "_____ ripped the _____ from _____!" posts every time a new model is introduced. Excepting blue-sky concepts (Mazda Furai) and oddball single-purpose vehicles (Fiat Multipla, Pontiac Aztek), everything is going to resemble everything else.
