What's funny is that while there is racism amongst NASCAR fans, they have at least learned to make it quiet racism. Europeans just speak their mind more often.

Couple of things.

F1 fans in Spain are NEW to the sport. They are NOT by any means a true representation of F1 fans.

F1 fans are an extremely diverse group of people because of the international and worldwide nature of the series. It is impossible to pinpoint a "typical" F1 fan. There is no such thing.

Thirdly, I find it very interesting that you would bring up Nascar in your comment. I don't think the incident has anything to do with Nascar. That said, most people are obviously not racist idiots, but my guess is that the F1 racing fans in question here are the same idiots that start racist soccer riots. You have to realize that racist groups purposely travel to soccer games to start sh*t in Europe. That's why you'll see UK skinheads starting riots in Spain, etc.

Anyways, obviously F1 is clamping down pretty hard to stop it from becoming associated with racist idiots. But just because there are racist idiots who went to an F1 event in Spain doesn't mean that it's ok for there to be racist idiots at NASCAR now. It's totally unacceptable for any sort of sport.

I haven't heard a slur at a sporting event in the US either, but then again I've only really gone to events in places where being a racist idiot would likely get you beaten up. But then again I also remember when John Rocker more than made up for the lack of bigotry in baseball by spewing more than enough racist BS for the whole league, so US sports isn't entirely untained by racist idiots.]]>Feb 14th 2008 3:48PM
