The Jaguar arm of PAG is losing half a billion each year, as much as the enthusiast in me would love to see a E-type revival, it needs to invest first in their core vehicles. That's not the 3 series or the G37. If you meant to talk about the X-type, you must be joking. Ford took a Contour platform, added drive to the rear wheels, and called it good. Who exactly said that? Jaguar needs to diversify to get back into the black. Making a vehicle that can run with the A4, 3 Series, C Series cars of the world is not where they should focus their energies. The biggest reason being that market is too competitive.

They should get to work on both a 911 AND a Boxster fighter. Jaguar is still seen as a pedigree sports car manufacturer. They just need to produce more than just the grand touring XK. There is no clear winner in the 911/DB9/360 (granted the ZR-1 is a monster) arena or the Boxster/TT/Z4 cage. It makes sense to enter into the fights where the playing field is more level; as opposed to ones where one car is the outright dominant leader (3 Series).

The new XK is incredible and has received nothing but rave reviews. The XF will do very well despite its odd Sebring-esq headlights. A redesigned XJ - that is supposedly a more aggressive take on the XF Concept - will be a show-stopper and a street sensation. Throw in a true sports car and a roadster and there will be a groundswell of enthusiasm for Jaguars rejuvenation.

/unabashed Jaguar enthusiast.

Alex

Comments on

I might be mistaken but shouldn't the V8 Vantage be clubbed with the 911? Jag should resist the temptation to stick aluminum ("aluminium") applique on their dashes and concentrate on wood, leather and wool (yes, wool) as the touch surfaces of their interiors.
