Gran Turismo 5 Prologue to drop April 17th

click above for more high-res screen shots from GT 5 Prologue
I got a PlayStation 3 this Christmas from Santa who must've mistaken me on his list for a much more deserving child. Yippy for me, though. The PS3 is the most powerful game console in the world, yet it sits idle in my entertainment center as the loud hum of my XBox 360 (I know, two consoles, I'm truly blessed) drones on. All that will change on April 17, which is the confirmed date that Gran Turismo 5 Prologue will go on sale for the PS3.
GT 5 Prologue, unfortunately, is just a preview of what we'll get when the full version of this fifth installment is released sometime in the future. But what a preview it is with 60 cars and five full tracks on which to race in high-def glory. You'll be able to buy GT 5 Prologue on April 17th either as a downloadable game from the PlayStation Network on your console or on disc at any games retailer, both for $40. Gran Turismo games were always my favorite on both the PlayStation 1 and 2, and I'm hoping GT5 Prologue will finally get me interested in the PS3 that's been suffering some serious neglect (no, you can't have it) since Christmas.

I have had the gt5p demo from the Japanese PSN for a while now. It's really not that great. I may hold off on this. It's wroth maybe $20 but sure not $40. I am a huge fan too.

Not that great? Are you serious? The graphics have improved exponentially, the in car views are extraordinarily realistic and the physics are spot on. If such accomplishments qualify as not that great you're either gaming on a standard set and unable to see the improvements or simply expecting more then anyone can deliver.

its tough to justify $40 for a big demo
i think i will wait to until the full game comes out before i buy buy ps3, nice wheel pedals, flat screen 1080p and 7.1.

Nah I play at 1080p on a big plasma with surround sound. The sound fs are terrible, straight from the old GT3. Engines sound like 8bit Nintendo samples. The graphics when you are playing are not even close as all these replay enhanced videos we keep seeing. Big deal with the interiors, nobody is going to sacrifice half their possible viewing area when really playing the game.
I think the main point is if you compare this with Forza2 which has been out for a while now, it barely even catches up. The physics and feel is not really all that great either. The cars went into strange behavior when in oversteer/understeer.

All the hardcore GT fans have already imported this from Japan. Who's left to buy it thats willing to spend $40 on a glorified demo?
I gotta say though I do like playing it with the new Dual Shock 3 and its new trigger style l2 and r2 buttons.

Lol @ demo costing $40. Crazy.
I'll stick with Forza 2 for now, thanks.

It's not a demo, the demo is already free on the Japanese PSN store.

This might actually get me to buy a PS3. I love the Gran Turismo series, its been my favorite exclusive series for the Playstation.

Wow. They're charging $40 for what is essentially a demo? Reason #443 why I chose the 360 over the PS3 (and I am a reformed PS2 fanboy)
Forza Motorsports 2 may not look *as* good as GT5, but it still looks stellar in 720p, and with downloadable content from Xbox Live, I've been running laps on my local track (Road America) in the FXX. w00t.

Dude its not a demo. 5 tracks 60 cars full 1080i graphics and ONLINE racing. What is the problem. If $40 is too steep for you then I feel bad for you. I can't see how you could have swung the $399 for the system. Studs like me have the 80GB system

Mike, RA is my local track as well, let's hear it for Elkhart Lake! The replication in FM2 is very good and simply smokes all the other tracks.

37 cars, 5 tracks, online mode and GT TV aint a demo.

I will buy this "demo" just for the sole fact that it includes the Top Gear test track and play it all day comparing my times to that of the stig.
I love Gran Turismo since PS1 and this is just what I needed to hold me until GT5 arrives, I got bored of Forza 2 and PPGR4 is nice but not Gran Turismo nice... :D

I got my 17-year old an XBox 360 and it came with Forza2. Although I whipped him in every race in equal cars, I was not impressed. I'm looking forward to getting GT5 -- but I'm not getting this demo. I spend hours at a time on my game, and the demo will not satisfy me.
Right now, I'm trying to figure out why the handling of my M3 on GT4 is so squirrelly. I just finished a season with my F1 game -- maybe I'm just used to the responses of those cars.

why would an autoblog writer knowingly start an xbox 360 vs ps3 flame war

The REAL game will be a reason to buy a PS3 (Hopefully better games come out before that however.. there are only a handful I'm interested in)
I'll stick with Wii60 for now.

For those who have both GTHD and GT5p, is there an appreciable difference other than cars and tracks?
