Spy Shots: 2008 Dodge Challenger production interior

While the exterior of the production 2008 Dodge Challenger is a secret no more, the interior has managed to stay hidden from view. That changed today when a link to this pair of interior spy shots was found on the challengertalk.com forums. While no designs seen in spy shots are final until the production car is officially revealed, this appears to be where Dodge is at with the Challenger's interior at the moment. To be honest, we're really underwhelmed. Not that we expected a bunch of retro queues inside the Challenger, and not that the car's exterior is all that flashy either, but this center console looks like a parts bin special with a side of fries. We dig the shifter handle, though, and we'll reserve judgment on the gauge pod that's trimmed in shiny metal until we get a better view. Who knows, maybe some will appreciate the plain Jane interior and insist it values function over form. Overall, however, we hope that Chrysler has something a little more special planned for the Challenger's instrument panel before production starts.

Wow! That is even blander than a 300C or Charger. Chrysler won't make it another two years.

People are so quick to judge, do you guys realize that this might be the BASE V6 model?
Chrysler is spending some serious money to update it's interiors. Do you really think they'll let their halo car get the shaft? They made the Ram's interior look better than GM's GMT900's IMO and I'm pretty damn picky.

I'd like to think that too ChrisJ, but the interior design and materials (chemical makeup) have probably been set in stone for some time. Besides, blurry photo's aren't telling the whole story - and me thinks that it will be of similar finish to the Dodge Journey. Not bad, but still not as nice as the Dodge RAM or GM's Malibu/CTS and most likely Camaro.
That doesn't mean however that it could get an update in 2010. It also doesn't detract from the simple fact that this is going to be one fun Muscle car.

It's not a V6 model, it's an 09 R/T. And yes, it's missing some pieces.

I wouldn't brag too much if your penis looks like that. Lousy interior. Get with the program Chrysler. Maybe take some notes from the current GM turnaround.

These shots were reposted from the allpar forums over on challengertalk.
The interior is actually black (instead of dark grey used on the other LX cars) and has the new HVAC knobs and other pieces that we've seen on the redesigned Dodge Ram. Stuff like navigation, MyGIG and other toys will be offered from what I've heard.
What interests me (and enthusiasts) most though is the Challenger's signature pistol-grip manual shifter, and it's modern glock handle styling. Extremely cool.

this is the lamest interior EVER. my neighbor's 98 mercury tracer has a better interior...
well.. maybe not... but i think it helps illustrate my point on how LAME this is...

I was never that impressed with the exterior compared to the Camaro or Mustang, but this interior is particularly disappointing. Heck, I don't like the current Mustang interior but it's a few years old and looks better than this.

So you've actually been inside the new Challenger and can attest that the interior materials are in fact cheap plastic???

Actually, Yes, I have been inside of it.
The model you're looking at is a 2009 R/T with no frills on the inside, just standard equipment.

I actually don't think it's that bad. Having driven many OLD Chryslers in my day, from a 1989 Dodge Dynasty to a 1996 Dodge Intrepid to a 2002 Jeep Liberty - I can safely say that this interior is leagues ahead of those. They used the same radio for so many years I was actually shocked to see something that looked a little newer.
As for the exterior styling, the Challenger beats the other "current" muscle cars hands-down. The Mustang's retro look is already tired and is due for a refresh soon. And the Camaro - well, I'm not even sure why it looks like a Camaro. Sure, it looks good in the Transformers movie, but would I really want to drive one every day? The everyday winner for me is the Challenger.
