Geneva Preview: Fiat 500 convertible cometh
You knew it was strictly a matter of time. AutoExpress is reporting that Fiat intends to bring a convertible version of its popular 500 micro-car to Geneva in March. The only vehicle that has the potential of challenging the MINI's cuteness and flickability will come with a soft-top that will attempt to keep the bulbous rooflines of the coupe model, complete with a glass rear window and doors that are fully framed. But Fiat isn't stopping there. To challenge the Cooper S, the automaker also plans to unveil the 500 Abarth SS in Geneva, packing a turbo'd 1.4-liter four producing 155 hp. Sales of both models should begin sometime towards the end of the year.[Source: AutoExpress]

Some people just can't get their head around the 500. Or the Mini for that matter. The only thing similar between a metro and a 500 is size. GM/Suzuki's old tin can was reliable but drove like a Radio Flyer wagon . It was basic transport. The new Fiat 500 drives well and is not a penalty box.

I agree, some people just don't get that simple car concept. Honestly in this economy, that is all I want is basic transport. I am in the process of selling my 325Ci and if it made financial sense I would drive a Mini or a 500...hell I'd drive a Big Wheels if it got me to and from work safely and put that much more $ in the bank.

The pic doesn't match the description of the proposed car: "soft-top that will attempt to keep the bulbous rooflines of the coupe model, complete with a glass rear window and doors that are fully framed." The proposed car will look better as simply lopping off the top detroys a nice design.
