Don't for a second believe that Ford is just going to roll over and hand over tens of thousands of Mustang sales to the upcoming Dodge Challenger and Chevy Camaro without a fight. We've been showing you
spy shots of what Ford's got up its sleeves for weeks now, but this is the first time we have a shot of the next Mustang's interior. Unfortunately, Ford is just as concerned with keeping any interior upgrades a secret as it is shrouding the Mustang's new face. We've got a high-res pic of what Brenda Priddy's photographer could snap of the
interior just the same, as well as new
front and
back shots of what we expect will be the 2010 Ford Mustang.

You have got to be kidding. By the 2010 model year, the Mustang should be due for a complete makeover, but it is not getting one. Once again, Ford will shortchange one of its best sellers with a new front clip, rear modifications, and an interior upgrade. That has been Ford's formula for years now...the one they used as they lost gobs of market share in all the arenas they used to dominate.
I do hope the all new Mustang is not more than a couple years out beyond this pathetic effort. At least they can count on the Challenger being more expensive overall, and the Camaro very late to the party. So get to work on the real new Mustang, and let's not have it later than the 2012 model year please.

I think this may be a cooling/exhaust mule.

This updated Mustang is on the same platform. There have been some changes to the underpinnings, so it's not just a mild update of the body. The engines will also be all-new. The interior is supposed to be quite nice.
There is a totally new Mustang due for 2012 on the new global RWD platform.

all new powertrains...
not just a touch up

I believe that Ford used the same frame for the Mustang from 1978-2004. By that comparison, they've got about 20 years left on this one.

Maybe waiting until you see it without camo before spouting off might be a good idea since you obviously have no idea how much change this car actually has.
jrejre @ Jan 24th 2008 9:40PM
The fact that they're updating the interior as well makes me think they plan on holding this one over for a good 3 years at least.
Oh well, im getting a challenger.

Are the painted mirror covers new? Looks better than the cheap black plastic ones they use now. (Though, not as good as the painted folding mirrors on the older SN95 stangs)
Otherwise, this picture doesn't give away much. They've got it buttoned up pretty tight.

Holy large steering wheel Batman!
It might just be a peeve of mine, but I can't stand big diameter steering wheels. To me small fat rimmed wheels feel the best and give the most control. It might just be that picture, but the thing looks huge!
Yaroukh @ Jan 25th 2008 3:47AM
more like a steering wheel from some coach
Rboyett @ Jan 25th 2008 8:18AM
It looks exactly the same as the steering wheel in my 2006 GT (sans silver paint) Honestly the steering wheel size is not its problem. Its just the cheap looking spokes.
nick @ Jan 24th 2008 9:57PM
maybe i am crazy but look closly at spy shots III at the picture of the front and in the right (drivers side) looks to be a cobra looking image (look close you will see it)
Berto @ Jan 24th 2008 10:06PM
Interesting, I can't say for sure that its a Cobra logo but definitely looks close. I missed it the first time. I wonder what it is?
Cole @ Jan 24th 2008 10:07PM
I saw it too! But idk, wouldn't the cobra be on the steering wheel too?
Paul P. @ Jan 24th 2008 10:52PM
On my '03 Cobra it says "COBRA" on the steering wheel, but it still says "Mustang" over the passengers side airbag, just like the GT and V6. It's quite possible they figured they could save a few bucks by keeping the Mustang logo on the steering wheel. Wouldn't bother me in the least, it already has enough Cobra logos on it.
The other possibility is it's the new Boss, which would also be great.
john @ Jan 24th 2008 10:10PM
yea i noticed that to, sure looks like a snake to me and the rear tires look a little wider than stock gt tires, maybe its the new 400hp boss engine model? to compete with the camaro
Berto @ Jan 24th 2008 10:28PM
Good point about the cobra logo not being on that steering wheel. Does anyone else think that is one hideous steering wheel? I hope that doesn't make it into production.
meshies @ Jan 25th 2008 9:02AM
how can you make judgment on the steering wheel when you can only see 0.08 of it.
Berto @ Jan 25th 2008 3:13PM
I was mainly referring to the silver logo in the middle of the steering wheel.
gmcbob @ Jan 24th 2008 10:29PM
Does anyone know if Ford is going to put the new new Eco Boost V6 motors in this car? The one with 340 hp? That would actually be pretty cool I think, especially if it could run mid 13s in the 1/4 mile like the V8 does.
