click above for more gorgeous high-res pics of the Audi RS6 AvantThough the 2008 Audi RS6 Avant was
officially unveiled last September and
displayed for the first time in Frankfurt shortly thereafter, the automaker from Ingolstadt doesn't want us to forget about its fire-breathing wagon. Audi has released a batch of new high-res RS6 Avant images that are perfect for this generation's version of that iconic Countach poster on the wall: the desktop wallpaper. And in case you forgot what the RS6 Avant is all about, here is its resume in easily digestible chunks.
- 580-horsepower/480 lb-ft twin-turbo V10 TFSI
- 0-62 mph in 4.6 seconds, 0-124 mph in 14.9 seconds
- Top speed of 155 mph (electronically governed)
- quattro permanent four-wheel-drive
- Unique bodywork, interior trim
- Up to 58.6 cubic ft of cargo space
- Optional ceramic composite brakes
- 6-speed tiptronic
Those who grew up dreaming about one day owning that Countach on the wall can now embarrass Lamborghini's legendary exotic in a German station wagon. If that's not the best cure for a mid-life crisis, we don't know what is. Check out all the new pics, plus the original official photos and our live shots of the Audi RS6 AVant from the
2007 Frankfurt Motor Show in the gallery below.

Another amazing car from audi that we will never see!or if we do see it will be a detuned version and with out the options you want.
Alex @ Jan 24th 2008 3:07PM
if money were no object, this would be my daily driver.
Spaceweasel @ Jan 24th 2008 3:13PM
I know in my head that this body style is far more practical, but I just can't get my heart to jump up and down for a station wagon. Chalk me up in the category of silly Yanks who Audi knows won't buy into this uber-wagon. Sorry, boys, it's my fault. VAG did their market research properly, this time.
2004m3driver @ Jan 24th 2008 3:42PM
Definitely want. Except you're right. Whose going to buy this? Over here we have tons of space and 3 car garages. This will be too expensive for the bargain speed freak. Too brutal for the soccer mom. And not fancy enough for the badge whores. This is like for the in college speed freak with rich parents and has to sleep in their car sometimes crowd. I'll stick to the Californian way of 3 cars per household average.

I wonder why the tiptronic was used in place of the DSG.
Jason @ Jan 24th 2008 3:43PM
DSG can't handle the amount of torque this engine puts out, at least not yet.

Is America ready for station wagons?
I think we are getting there, especially after the influx of 5 door semi-compacts a la Mazda3, Matrix, Caliber and the like.
I always thought the Magnum sold well but I must be wrong considering Cerberus/Chrysler axed it. (Although a 3.5L V-6 wagon getting only 17/24 mpg doesn't give much reason to switch from a SUV to a wagon. Worse yet, the 6.1L V8 managed only to get 15 mpg combined.)

I want.... drool...
If we could only get the M5 touring in the US... Or find a 540 touring...
DKB_SATX @ Jan 24th 2008 4:29PM
You can get a 535xi Touring, which performance-wise is a good substitute for a 540 and probably gets better mileage (I haven't looked up the mileage so that's just a guess, but I've definitely looked at the 535 specs.) Now if you can just find a way to print enough to cover that $54k BASE cost of entry...

Damn i wish i can have one. Well i did have a 700 horsepower 1st generation modified RS6 Sedan, i put in all the racing parts and lightened it, lowered it and put a wing on the back for downforce. Cost about the price of a whole other RS6 but it was worth it, this thing was FAST!!! THen my game corrupted
Seoultrain @ Jan 24th 2008 5:15PM
hahahaha didn't see that coming. The whole time, I was just thinking, "you rich #%&@#"
Johnny @ Jan 24th 2008 4:28PM

Where was it again?
Zane @ Jan 24th 2008 5:40PM
Wow ... that shade of paint with the silver accented mirrors looks amazing. Is it the same Sprint blue offered on the MY08 RS4?
Chris @ Jan 24th 2008 5:49PM
I don't understand what the s6 is for then...
Derek @ Jan 24th 2008 5:57PM
Am I the only one who wonders how much this beast must weigh to take 4.6 seconds to get to 60 when it has 580hp and AWD?
Either this vehicle is over 5000#, or that's supposed to be 480hp.
chris @ Jan 24th 2008 8:14PM
Every Audi (or at least the performance models) has it's manufacturer claims far slower than the true performance of the car. RS4's can hit 60 mph something like half a second faster than what Audi claim, R8 is faster as well, as the RS6 definitely will be also. There's no way they'll make it slower than the RS4. Porsche do the same thing I'm pretty sure, just makes it so the customers don't get upset when they can get nowhere near the claimed times as may happen in other cars when the claimed time is more accurate.
Smeagle @ Jan 24th 2008 11:29PM
I seem to remember a test conducted in Motor magazine a couple of years ago with the old RS6. It had the Lamborghini Gallardo beat all the way up to the 1Km mark.
Yes it's anecdotal but I wouldn't be too upset embarassing Lambos in a wagon.
