Gemballa Avalanche GTR 800 EVO-R takes 911 Turbo to next level

The Porsche 911 Turbo is one of the most capable supercars on the planet, and its design has been honed by the ages to be a super slippery modern interpretation of the Porsche's essence. All that goes right out the window with Gemballa's latest upgrade for the 911 Turbo, the Avalanche GTR 800 EVO-R.
Let's start with the new styling. Gemballa installs a new lower fascia that's pretty much one giant air intake divided into three parts. Likewise, a vented hood is added that will take some of that incoming oxygen and direct it up and over the car for more downforce and stability. The 911 Turbo also gets GT headlights and a super trick dual-wing rear spoiler. Gemballa gave the 911T new 19-inch alloy wheels out back fitted with Yokohama AVS Sport tires. Their sheer girth required the bodywork be widened, so new rear fenders bulge out to accommodate the steam rollers and incorporate a larger air intake ahead of the wheels. The rear apron has also been modified to allow four exhaust tips to exit on either side of the license plate.
The look is menacing, and Gemballa gives the Avalanche GTR 800 EVO-R the muscle to back up its menace. The engine has been enlarged to 3.8L and fitted with a pair of Garret T035 turbos in place of the stock blowdryers. Along with GT3-R heads, a machined crank and new connecting rods, the car now makes 850 HP and 690 ft-lbs of torque. Handling upgrades also include H&R coilovers with adjustable springs and three-position anti-roll bars.
The Gemballa Avalanche GTR 800 EVO-R does not appear to be for the faint of heart, but Gemballas never are.

You're forgetting the fact that if you can afford this car - you don't give a flying f**k how ugly it is, as you could just buy another 911 turbo and keep is stock :)

I have never seen a customized 911 that looked better than the original, this continues that trend.

suprising that there isn't an integrated roll-cage

WITHOUT the bigass ugly ricer wing, that would look pretty sweet...

that rear wing is typical Porsche fashion..many 911 Porsche factory race cars carryed more silly looking wings...
The 997 GT3 RS carry a similar wing sitting little bit lower at the rear and without airintakes at the side.. but air intake in the lower part of the rear wing was seen befor at 911 stock from factory.. the 993 GT2 had air intakes at the same place..
The 993 GT2

Agreed. Normally it drives me nuts as soon as any kind of non-conventional picture shows up and people yell, "'SHOPPED!", but it's extremely appropriate here.
Look at the picture showing the open front trunk (bonnet, whatever) with the Carrera GT-esque headlights. Who did that? Some office intern?
Actually, I take it back. In all likelihood the photos are not Photoshopped.
I believe they were 'MS Painted'.

They've managed to uglify one of the most beautiful front ends on any car.

Gemballa the original Pimp yo' ride cat. Their designs have always been garish.

why not the LS2/LS7? 2:34PM (1/24/2008)
I see Gemballa hasn't deviated from their "no taste" history.

bunch of dorks.
that kicks ass.... ok the oreo look isn't to appealing, but with 850+ HP you freaking better have a wing like that.

No joke! This thing is beautiful. Considering how much weight there is in the rear, that wing is definately needed. I love how a rear wing = rice. Obviously no one's ever seen the uphill 911 races.
Nucbuddy 3:27PM (1/24/2008)
@Andrew,
What would weight have to do with a need for downforce?
Seoultrain 3:40PM (1/24/2008)
lol, more weight in the rear actually lessens the need for rear downforce, therefore less need for a rear wing. The ducting in the front does make sense, though.
Andrew 3:41PM (1/24/2008)
The car is ass-heavy and rear wheel drive. If you take a long fast corner, you'll want something to keep power in the rear wheels on the ground, as the car will want to drift the rear end. You know, something like down force.
Andrew 3:47PM (1/24/2008)
To help clarify, putting more weight in the rear is great off the line. The power at the rear wheels is planted more. Down force is obviously not an issue until higher speeds.
Where down force is helpful is in cornering. More weight in the rear means that in a corner the rear end wants to slide sideways more than the front, hence why you see more oversteer in mid-engine and rear-engine cars and more understeer on front-engine cars. With this much power on a rear-engine car, you're going to want all of the rear downforce you can get. In this case, it's practical.
I'm assuming no one commenting has ever driven a Porsche, or a rear-engine car before, hence your ignorance on the subject, hence my clarification.
Seoultrain 3:50PM (1/24/2008)
Downforce is a tricky beast, mostly because it's almost completely dependent on speed. Instead of having a huge variable in your performance, some good suspension tuning and tire size balance will get you better, more-consistent cornering than a huge wing like that.
Andrew 3:54PM (1/24/2008)
With 850hp, and I assume added weight in the rear, this thing needs all of the help it can get. Also, at 850hp, you're not buying it for the way it looks.

Paint the darn thing flat-black and re-install the original body kit. Then add a small spoiler.
Then it will be awesome.
