Anything with Carroll Shelby's name on it automatically has a higher value, and even more so if his name is on the pink slip as well. This 1969 Shelby GT500 Convertible has been owned by Carroll since new. The only other 1960's Shelby that he still owns from new is the very first Shelby Cobra, CSX2000. The car underwent a five year rotisserie restoration that was finished up in September of 2007.
Bidding for the car started at $100k, then quickly rose to $300 within a few seconds, then up to $500 where it stalled. Bidding slowly creeped past $600,000 and finally rested on $675,000. The winning bidder? You guessed it - Ron Pratte, the same guy who bought the Cobra SuperSnake last year.

Is he going to buy all the essential historical muscle cars so we can never see them again since his museum is not open to the public? Just because you have the money doesn't mean you have to rob the community.

Pratt should buy my Neon. It's a brand new, pre-owned one-of-one sedan, 5speed, manual windows and mirrors, A/C and 4disc CD changer - with custom dog-damage on the front bumper.
It's a steal at 150,000$

I think he would rather splurge and get power windows, locks, sunroof, and mirrors with my Neon. :) It doesn't have cruise control like most of the cars selling at B-J.

*laughs* less to break though... you know how 'rare' Neons are.

Nobody can say Ron Pratte doesn't have good taste (and a TON of cash). Good for him for picking this one up.

I love auto auctions but I really don't understand why anyone would pay that much for an old car. I know it has history but jeeze lol.

especially when you don't even show it off...
I mean if I were rich, yea I'd buy cars...and I'd have some older ones, but I wouldn't spend extra just because it was owned by Shelby, though I have tons of respect for him...if I'm spending that much I'm getting me some Lambo's and Ferrari's so that I can actually DRIVE them!!!

I don't care much for Mustangs but......I do dig that hood.

Ron Pratte is going to buy every Shelby ever. Has that new glass-roof VIN 0001 or whatever it is been sold to him yet?
the_english_speaking_monkey @ Jan 19th 2008 9:17PM
Yes

This was, easily, my all-time favorite car growing up as a kid and I still can't think of a single car I would like to own more than a '69 Shelby GT500 convertible (although the '68 Shelby GT500KR convertible runs a pretty close second). Can't imagine I would drive it if I owned it as they're something of a commitment if you're going to run them.

in my next life i want to be reincarnated as ron pratte. not only is he good loking, uber-rich, with a hot milf wife and ridiculous car collection...he also seems like a 100% straight-up decent guy.
kudos to him, i hope he enjoys his collection.
