why not the LS2LS7? @ Jan 15th 2008 2:07PM
They didn't get around it. The engine weighs about 800lbs and only makes 500HP. Problem not solved.
Tom @ Jan 15th 2008 2:43PM
Where did you get that number? I have yet to see anything on how much this engine weighs.
Sean Flanagan @ Jan 15th 2008 2:45PM
You keep saying this, yet you have no sources. Please provide a link to where it says this engine weighs 800lbs.
MikeW @ Jan 15th 2008 3:23PM
Are you mad about the weight increase or the change in weight distribution (from 44/56 to abouts 43/57)
I want to know what kind of gearing the transmission has.10,20,30,40,50,60 mph/1K revs. Top speed in 5th@3750rpm, supercruise to 180mph@3000 in 6th?

Problem not solved if you are purely a performance car manufacturer such as Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini, etc. However, the diesel R8 offers a level of performance comparable to the petrol R8. Audi has found a way to introduce a new Supercar without cannibalizing the sales of its Supercar division, Lamborghini.

Same CGI iron block as the 4.2L. the 4.2L weighs 565lbs. This engine is almost 50% bigger (both in displacement and number of cylinders), 565* 1.38 = 780 pounds.

What did you expect, a miracle?
It's a HUGE iron block. Of course it weighs a lot. I swear, put the word Diesel on something and people get all irrational.

who cares about engine weight?
a Viper V10 engine with only 10cylinder weights "dressed" over 710lbs and has less torque at the same hp ..and burns much 2 to 3 times more fuel..
a Jaguar V12 weights 680lbs with much lower power
etc
etc
there are many heavy engines in the world were no one cares about the engine weight..
