Mazda had a similar scissors drive on some V6s (like 15 years ago). Doesn't one gear have one less/more tooth than the other, that dampens oscillations, hence noise. (From the questionable Wikipedia).<br><br>Though that engine was made from aluminum and I don't know if that aspect of race engine was carried over.
