Lincoln's next iteration of its "Bow-wave" grille comes in the form of the MKT concept; essentially a low riding CUV that might hint at an MKX replacement. What Peter Horbury is describing as a new take on the Grand Tourer, the MKT aims to be a long-distance cruiser with enough amenities to keep four urban adults comfortable and isolated from the world around them.
The MKT's styling picks up a few of MKZ-inspired cues, particularly the krill grille and sharp crease in the hood. The few elements that stand out (there aren't many) are the Lincoln emblem embedded behind the front wheels that strafes off into a character line, the chunky C-pillar and the steep slope of the hatch. The MKT carries some of the exterior's swoop inside, along with the unfortunate addition of Bedazzled sill plates and door handles. Power comes courtesy of Ford's EcoBoost 3.5-liter turbocharged and direct-injected V6, producing 415 hp and 400 lb.-ft. of torque.
Viewed next to the Edge-based MKX, the MKT makes Lincoln's current CUV look staid and antiquated in comparison. It might not be the best application of the new line of Lincoln design cues, but it's combination of power and cruising capabilities might be exactly what's need next in the Lincoln lineup. Video of the live MKT concept reveal is available after the jump.

Nice. I wasn't sure about this new front end from Lincoln, but I do like it on this cuv. Very good.
Yggdrasilly @ Jan 14th 2008 10:32AM
I just like the fact that they're calling it the MKT.
"MKT" were the initials of the old Missouri-Kansas-Texas Line, commonly known as "the Katy."
It's referred to in the song "She Caught the Katy (and Left Me a Mule to Ride)" that's played at the beginning of The Blues Brothers movie--as Jake and Elroy go tooling around Illinois in some great pre-catalytic-converter American iron.
So now I'm sitting here at work enjoying pipe dreams about getting one of these cars wrapped up in MKT's green-and-yellow livery, with the chevrons all down the front...
...and if it ever comes out as a diesel-electric serial hybrid, the effect would be complete!
Eek @ Jan 14th 2008 10:38AM
I wouldn't buy one, but it's a great effort from FoMoCo and a great looking car. I wonder when the Navigator is going to get this new front end?
Rocketboy @ Jan 14th 2008 11:02AM
Wow, this is 8 kinds of awful. The grille is wretched. It looks like a BMW/Pontiac rip off. The hump in the beltline is wretched and out of place. The car looks like it has slab side doors. and what's up with the Malibu Maxx rear end? Even Malibu gave that idea up, and for that market segment, it was a good idea. Don't forget to overlook how awful the roof looks.
Gregg @ Jan 14th 2008 11:25AM
Couldn't agree with you less. This is one of the best looking CUVs out there, bold and beautiful. That you hate it is great. Lincoln badly needs some polarizing designs.
Rocketboy @ Jan 14th 2008 3:13PM
Polarizing, as in the Aztek?
Infinihertz @ Jan 14th 2008 3:58PM
The Aztec wasn't polarizing. Virtually nobody liked it.
J. D. Billiford @ Jan 14th 2008 11:05AM
>>> Not my cup of tea but I applaud the company for the effort.
On a side note, the overall profile reminds me of the Jeep Compass.
Ligor @ Jan 14th 2008 11:12AM
yeap, stationwagons will take it from SUVs and CUvs with the new 35mpg standards.
i'm still waiting on that CTS stationwagon or G35 wagon (unlikely since the EX35 took it's spot)
maybe i'll have to settle for the G8 wagon when it comes out.
Freestyle4x4f150 @ Jan 14th 2008 11:19AM
Looks clean and original. I would buy one.
C.W. @ Jan 14th 2008 11:37AM
beautiful. the direction Lincoln is headed in gets 2 thumbs up. finally a Lincoln design that makes me proud of American Luxury cars.
Mattias @ Jan 14th 2008 11:45AM
Patrick Le Quément just called. He wants his Vel Satis back, immediately.
SGV @ Jan 14th 2008 11:58AM
. . and what did you tell him? or are you blind too?
calebe @ Jan 14th 2008 12:14PM
Florida will be full of them. I wonder how the 'Rascal' will look hanging on the back.
Mike Botros @ Jan 14th 2008 12:56PM
to me it looks more like the lincoln version of a freestyle/taurus x, which uses the same platform as the MKS & flex. like an MKS wagon, only slightly taller than the MKS. That's probably why they're using the freestyle skins on the test mule... still looks hot too bad it's out of my price range.
but either way.. i don't see it looking like this when it comes out.. it's too impractical for lincoln.. maybe a high end version of the car... but not the mainstream version... but at least this puts it out there that ford/lincoln do innovate... for all the doubters...
Oliver @ Jan 14th 2008 1:19PM
Interesting that execs have chosen to show the car in Detroit with an image of NYC (World Trade Center Site) in the background. Hmmm....
cameron42985 @ Jan 14th 2008 1:25PM
Reminds me a lot of the Phantom, but better in a way.
I'm amazed. This is no 300.
big L @ Jan 14th 2008 1:34PM
isn' this adapted fromthe Chrysler Nassau? The rear is a big uh-uh! for the USA. It is kind of like Batman's weekend drive-Baby Batmobile.
big L @ Jan 14th 2008 1:34PM
Otherwise it is ok. Great to take a risk for Linc.
mr.ed @ Jan 14th 2008 1:49PM
It's a rebodied CX-9, right?
