GM reached a climax of the senses with its Corvette ZR1 introduction at the GM Style kickoff to the 2008 NAIAS. Kid Rock was singing about the Motor City while Jeff Gordon drove in the ZR-1 on stage. The General threw in some scantily clad women and flashing lights for good measure, and the crowd of 1,500 was on its feet. We were there too, with camera rolling. Hit the jump to view the ZR1's grand entrance. Don't get too disappointed that the GM execs are blocking the view of the company's $100,000 supercar, as the super Vette gets elevated 15 feet in the air on a giant pedestal about halfway through the video.

      I enjoyed it.

Needed to do a burnout on stage though.
I'm not even sure myself if I'm being sarcastic.

As much as I hate to agree with the douchebag Corvette haters above, I do have to ask WTF was that intro all about?

No wonder Jeff Gordon got off the stage as quickly as possible.

This would be great for Ferrari or Porsche to parody, except for the fact that no one really cares.

While I do kinda see the point, the US makes a Ferrari class car for 100k... People tend to forget one of the greatest stories in racing. The US already took down Ferrari at its own game. Ford killed them with the original GT40 LeMans wins.

Also some of the specs on this car are a little weird. Why does the ZR1 not have the Z06 weight savings with CF panels? The ZR1 is the heaviest of the 3 vettes, stock/Z06/ZR1. But it has a 10k CF brake kit which is overkill. Yes they are alot quieter then Ceramics and stop even better, but not worth the price on a production car.

Bringing up that GT40 win and saying "the US took down Ferrari at its own game" is lame.

That makes it what? Italy: 459, US: 1?

As a former new Corvette buyer I must say, where's the CLASS in this? Why not just have a Beverly Hillbilly's set for the introduction? Jeez.....

I love Vettes, and I'm a Kid Rock fan. But there is a time and a place for Kid Rock music (especially a song about being a redneck), and an intro of a $100K car is NOT one of them. This only provides fuel for domestic auto haters. I wonder what Lutz thought of it.

The Corvette and Kid Rock are kinda similar, both enjoy fame and both are either loved or hated, but either way both are very successful at what they do.

I'm speechless. This might actually be so tasteless that it wraps around to good.

They should have saved that drive train for the next body style. This body style is already looking old. It seems like a slight upgrade from the C5.

It's all great, more power...but sexier sheetmetal would have made me wet my pants.

        I'll take a GT-R....thanks.

Yeah, that is pretty hick. Remember the people organizing this stuff are so far from hick it isn't even funny. They like to play it up a bit!

Using Bob Seager's music for Chevy trucks was fine, but this is just wrong...

how could you take a car as amazing as the ZR1 and ruin with such a horrible intro....

        * I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU T454! All that energy & effort on behalf of all those engineers working late nights, sweating the details at GM, restructuring, etc. And the one chance they have to make the presentation to the world, what do they do? They sink it like the Titanic! They cuda done anything else - Hi-Tech, Bling, Race Theme, etc.

This vehicle has been designed to take on the world. The world is watching, waiting & now laughing not with us, but at us.

Sue the event organizer(s)! First impressions are lasting ones & irrepairable!

Who wants to bet GM share prices will drop directly attributable to this LUDICROUS presentation?! Any/all future arguments will simply be countered with: 'Whatever. Did you see that Vette Detroit introduction? What a Joke!'

        Very Sad. Extremely Frustrating.
