Is a CVT really less reliable than a conventional AT? It has far fewer moving parts and, if something does go wrong, it's a much easier fix than the gears-and-valves bonanza that a modern 6AT is.
I mean, take poor care of either and you're looking at a huge bill, but as the victim of a malfunctioning transmission, I'll take the easier-to-service design any day of the week.
