Each month, 13 million visitors use Edmunds to research cars and trucks, and once again Honda and Toyota dominate the site's list of top searches. The Honda Civic and Accord along with the Toyota Camry lead the hit parade, followed by six other Japanese models and the BMW 3-Series. The two Japanese juggernauts also owned the top truck searches, with the fuel efficient Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4 taking first and second, respectively. The only other automaker to crack the truck/SUV/minivan category was GM, with the GMC Acadia coming in at number five, and the Saturn VUE rounding out the top ten.
It's interesting to note that the vehicles car shoppers research most aren't exactly the the ones that produce the highest sales volume, as evidenced by the Mazda3 besting the economy car sales champ Toyota Corolla by three spots. Also worth noting is that automotive stalwarts have a much larger presence on Edmunds than do new models like the Chevy Malibu or the Cadillac CTS. Thus we now have irrefutable evidence that the Honda Civic is the best car in the WOOOOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRLLLLLLLLLLLDDDDDD
Mateo @ Jan 5th 2008 1:14PM
Damn right it is. I love my 2007 civic LX coupe. Its a sweet car. So much better than the 1996 ford contour I had been saddled with previously.
The civic is by far the best small car. The corolla blows and handles like a slinky, the sentra just reaks lameness, and the Koreans didn't catch my attention.
The civic is reliable, safe, peppy, and handles nicely. I can also fit all my friends in it, which is nice.
Aetius @ Jan 5th 2008 1:21PM
mateo - Ever heard of a Mazda3?
MachinaDC5 @ Jan 5th 2008 1:53PM
Maybe Mateo was just not interested in buying another Ford.
Aetius @ Jan 5th 2008 2:13PM
LOL. So instead of buying a car which is built 100% in Japan (Mazda3), he bought a 'Japanese' car which was built in North America (Civic)?
If Ford's ownership of Mazda is whats stopping you from checking out a Mazda, you have serious issues and need to get those blinders removed from your eyes ASAP.

"Damn right it is. I love my 2007 civic LX coupe. Its a sweet car."
"The corolla blows and handles like a slinky, the sentra just reaks lameness, and the Koreans didn't catch my attention."
Mateo, you basically sound about as dumb as a human being CAN sound. In fact, the only thing stopping me from wishing horrible, untimely death upon you is your reference to the Corolla "blowing".
Actually, I was incorrect, the Corolla doesn't "blow", but instead is boring and fuel efficient.
Your car rocks? The Sentra "reaks of lameness"?
Are you Sixteen? Mommy and daddy buy your "OMG AWSUM DOOD!" spaceshi - err Civic for you?
Peppy? I test-drove one. It was about as peppy as... wait, it was less peppy than a four-banger 98 Grand Am I had when I was your age (16).
It's a pile of garbage, the interior is 'great' only if you're comparing it to an interior covered in dog poop and cow urine. It's hard plastic, and nothing special compared to any other interior in the history of the world with hard plastic.
Learn 2 comprehend, and stop talking, Mateo.
THX DOOD!!11

matt, don't you have a CTS/Malibu circle jerk to attended? Leave the kids alone.
Wow @ Jan 6th 2008 12:16AM
Sorry, I test drove a 2007 McCivic. I guess there were no Mazda dealers in your area???
I'd rather take public transportation than drive that torqueless, ugly little wedge-of-cheese. Did you not have the time to test drive other cars or did your parents buy it for you? The Fisher-Price interior didn't turn you off? I guess if they don't want you driving fast thats the way to go.
Great non-hybrid McEconocar though. If I didn't feel like a complete cheap McJohn McDoe for driving one I'd get one too!
Daniel @ Jan 6th 2008 3:21AM
Matt, I'm pretty sure you're the one that needs to grow up.
I test drove both, definitely liked the Civic better. You can't hate on a car that handles better than my mom's $30,000 A4 (2007).
You liked the 3 better? Good for you. And anyone else that bought one. But please, grow up a bit.
Not peppy enough? Test drive an Si.
Daniel @ Jan 6th 2008 3:27AM
Oh, and like it or not, the base Civic has the same if not more "pep" than a Mazda3 (wait, aren't these economy cars anyway?):
DEFINITELY handles better; to deny that would be negating your whole rant.
And will even keep up in a straight line.
Aetius @ Jan 6th 2008 9:43AM
Daniel - Both the Mazda3 engines have more HP, more torque. Handling? The Mazda rules this part of town. The Civic's brakes are squishy.
Daniel @ Jan 6th 2008 3:27PM
No, they have more HP ON PAPER. Ever dyno them? Civic R18 motor pulls around 135 HP at the WHEELS. Factor in weight, and you've got a faster car.
And please don't say the 3 handles better. I drive them both frequently. That's just ridiculous.
Aetius @ Jan 6th 2008 3:55PM
Judging by your sentence structure 'Like it or not/Please don't deny/You cannot deny', its evident you are a 16yr old who probably hasn't driven anything better than a hand-me-down '98 Civic DX. When you are old enough to test drive a Mazda, try one out. Then you'll understand what handling is.
Daniel @ Jan 6th 2008 8:09PM
Nice rebuttal buddy.
Dad @ Jan 5th 2008 11:41AM
Toyota stock is tanking. And their quality is dropping. Maybe that is why they are the most "researched"?
Aetius @ Jan 5th 2008 11:47AM
Why does one choose a Toyota over a Honda? I'm a Mazda fan so I wouldn't pick either but if I had to buy a vanilla-transportation device, I'd rather pick a Honda - I always find it to have better interior design/quality, has equal resale-value/reliability, better handling...
Not a flame post, just wondering.
zakudomgoog @ Jan 5th 2008 11:47AM
go figure...people comparing the most reliable cars for the money...dumb asses! HAHAHA
stick with the big three!
Matt Keller @ Jan 5th 2008 12:22PM
What?
Taylor @ Jan 5th 2008 12:42PM
Reliable? I see more old Honda's and Toyota's than old Big Three cars roaming about the city.
Michael Hippenhammer @ Jan 5th 2008 12:59PM
I see more older Volkswagens on the road, even going back into the 60's models than Honda or Toyota by a 2 to1 margin. Who wants an old Honda or Toyota? They are just dated junk after 4 years. VW's are more sought after, collected, and have more fan clubs, for each model, than any other car out there. They are the only car that is worth rebuilding and restoring the older they get. Of course I am from the west where we choose imports over domestic. Oh yeah, VW is #1 for resale value for the first 5 years.
