Auto Futura recreates history with the CAV GT Gulf Oil Edition
The Gulf Oil paint scheme was immortalized in motorsports history when the the '68-'69 Ford GT40 capped off four straight victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Later cars such as the Porsche 917 have also featured the unique livery, but it's the Ford GT40 that first comes to mind when you think of the light blue and orange paint.
Auto Futura, the manufacturers of the CAV GT replicar, have secured the rights to paint their cars in the Gulf Oil colors complete with period sponsor stickers and BRM wheels. The cars will also feature a 500 horsepower V8 with Weber IDF carburetors, nubuck leather interior with Gulf Oil logos embroidered on the seats, five-point safety harnesses, and special chassis plates identifying them as being officially licensed Gulf Oil cars. Each chassis number will be added to a registry, and owners will receive a certificate from Gulf Oil confirming their vehicle's authenticity. Follow the jump for full features and details.

Engine
The CAV GT is designed to accept a Ford V8 small block. Standard power for the Gulf Oil edition includes a 347ci V8 with 500 horsepower.
Chassis
The monocoque chassis is true in spirit to the original but features superior strength and stiffness. The chassis is a tig-welded, stainless-steel structure consisting of 67 CNC punched and bent panels, welded together in a jig to ensure dimensional accuracy. It features an integral roll over bar and side impact protection bars. Every CAV GT chassis is manufactured to accept a bolt-in roll cage for racing purposes.
Front Suspension
The front suspension is comprised of tig welded A-frame wishbones and adjustable anti-roll bar linkages. Specially designed suspension geometry ensures superb handling on road and track conditions, with the benefit of bump steer adjustment. The lower wishbones are braced. The front uprights are CNC machined from aircraft-spec billet aluminum.
Rear Suspension
The rear suspension geometry consists of independent double trailing links with inverted A-frame wishbones, upper transverse links and an adustable anti-roll bar linkage coupled to cast aluminum uprights.
Springs and Dampers
The suspension is set up on competition coilovers with gas shocks with adjustable damping rates and variable spring height.
Brakes
Forged aluminum 4-piston Wilwood calipers with 300mm rotors front and rear are standard, while billet aluminum 6-piston Wilwood calipers with 300mm rotors at the front and forged aluminum 4-piston calipers at the rear are optional.
Interior
The CAV GT is designed for maximum comfort. The interior, including seats, padded dashboard, steering wheel, center console, roof lining and door linings are all covered in leather.
The ergonomically sound leather-clad adjustable seats feature original style brass grommets. Sound damping is provided by insulating foam and top grade carpeting. Additional comforts include air conditioning, increased head and legroom to accomodate anyone up to 6"4" and fully adjustable racing style pedal box. Original Smiths gauges complete with chrome bezels and Lucas switch gear recreate the experience of the 1960's design.

I want.... But you can get your own superformance, which has the LIC for the chassis and paint it your self then buy the cav stickers and rims... Which would make it more correct...

Such a beautiful design. I remember Clarkson(?) from Top Gear complaining about the reliability though >,>.

When does he not complain? His opinions are worthless, just like his show.

That was the GT40, which he OWNED, and which failed to complete a single round trip, it was a lemon and also a production product of Ford, vs an Auto Futura replicar - this isn't the same car.

No, that was a Ford GT.
This car is a replica of the 60's GT40. Different car in every way. The GT40 was a pure race car. And this one, with 4 webers will e fun to tune (I have tuned them before). Especially if you are not familiar with a unisyn.

many of his problems were due to electronics that were changed after he imported the car

I call B.S. on the 500hp 347ci claim!!! In order to get that kind of power out of a 347 sbf the motor would be so radical (cam, compression, etc.) it would be unstreetable for most people. Only the certifiably insane would drive a car with such a motor on the street which I am glad to say I am. I just cannot imagine any company offering such a wacko motor to it's customers. Superformance generally recommends a much more docile (and equally if not more powerful depending on tune) 427 stroker.

Some clarification..
CAV GT a kit GT40.
Ford GT - the Ford modern version that does not share any demensions or parts with the old car, they are not allowed to call it a GT 40 as someone else owns that name. This is what Clarkson owned and was complaining about.

I believe Superformance owns the rights to the name.

"The cars will also feature a 500 horsepower V8 with Weber IDF carburetors"
A non-injected car in this day and age? I guess they're really going for historical accuracy. Looking at the CAV site I do note that injection will be available as an option.
