Pics Aplenty: Mercedes-Benz GLK Vision GLK FREESIDE

We brought you five images of the Mercedes-Benz GLK Vision GLK FREESIDE when news broke on it last night, but today MB has released a full slate of photography showing its new soft-roader from every angle. We can't say it necessarily helps, as the GLK still looks like something you'd place on the kitchen counter to hold your good set of knives. So many sharp angles, creases and hard lines tries to impart an air of SUV-ness to the GLK that just doesn't work as well as it does on the full-size GL SUV. Nevertheless, the GLK has some promising hardware hiding underneath its butch exterior that includes a BLUETEC four-cylinder diesel, 7G-TRONIC seven-speed automatic transmission and a new 4MATIC all-wheel drive that's as efficient as a two-wheel-drive set up. We're also eager to climb inside the GLK to determine how the interior stacks up to its cross-town competition from BMW, as well as similarly sized and less expensive CUVs. There's certainly money to be made in the CUV business, but the question is how much will the GLK make for Mercedes-Benz? Look for our live coverage of the 2008 Detroit Auto Show beginning Sunday, January 13th to find out.

Exactly what I was thinking!! That thing is the lost twin of a Forester!
Ligor 12:48PM (1/03/2008)
Yeah right
Subaru only wishes their SUV's looked this good, and still this is not very good looking
But if it comes in at $25-32k then we might ahve something, as even a piece of crap Escape will get upwards of $26k.

@Ligor
I really find it hard to believe that Mercedes will let this go for anything less than $35, maybe. In a EX35, X3, GLK comparo, I have a feeling the Infiniti will beat the Germans in value.

Ugly as it is, I foresee Vancouver overflowing with them in 2 years. There are just too many rich, but tasteless, people living here...

what's that saying.... fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down?
Pat 12:58PM (1/03/2008)
Yeah Vancouver will really begin to change with the arrival of this model.

Its sad, but, however ugly we might believe this car to be. Mercedes will probably sell everyone.
The preferable Forrester is great for the kind of car that it is, but there are going to be some moms who'd rather take thier dogs to the shampooer (is that even a word) in this, rather than a Subaru.

>>> After studying the bevy of photos of the new GLK Freeside's styling I'm forced to sit a moment and ponder this latest addition to the Mercedes-Benz stable of vehicles.
Hmmmmmmmmm?
Nope! I don't like. Enough said.

Yes, it does closely resemble a Forester.

I was thinking Forester when it first was unveiled. Every pic has continued to make it look Subie. Not a good thing since Subie is making uglier and uglier cars lately.

this really could be built out of a forester. It is truly UGLY. the greenhouse is too big... just doesn't look proportionate. The X3 as well is ugly. Lets hope Audi gets this segment right...

Put it back in the oven, Mercedes... it's clearly not done yet.

Why does this so resemble something Mitsu would build? Maybe it's just me.

Um, is it just me, or does this thing already look dated? Sad, however that there will inevitably be plenty of people to plunk down whatever it costs just because of the three-pointed star.

Oh MY God look up FUGLY in a dictionary and a picture of this thing right next to the BMW X3 should be there.
No seriously, can't wait for the Lexus in this class. Should be the good looking one along with the Infiniti.
And what's with all these companies making cheap small cars? Someone saying this could cost under $30k??? Why do we need non luxury brands then anymore? Crazy...

2008 has its Aztek.
What's up with that wood trim on the interior?

I feel like I have to say something about this car: it's simply ugly! What were they thinking? Wow!

Not a very successful execution of exterior styling for a crossover vehicle. I'm sure that won't stop this thing from selling well, though.

Will someone fire the designers at mercedes! These must be the same clowns who penned the new chrylsers. Aweful. It looks like a cheap chinese knockoff of a mercedes or another aweful hyundai/kia-no-design mess. More proof that the SUV is uniquely American and nobody does it better than we do!
