Chery S16: Inspired by Crocs?

Well, no, but can you blame us for thinking so? While no one here is a shoe expert like, say,
The Manolo, it's hard to look at this forthcoming Chery compact and not think of the ubiquitous (and heinous) sandals worn by
Mario Batali and countless suburbanites in apparent need of corrective eye surgery. Look at that rounded, upturned nose --
Croc city, baby! We know that the Chinese auto manufacturers have never shied away from "borrowing" styling elements from other cars in the past, so really, what's to stop them from aping a resin clog design for the S16?

I bet you Mr. Wang will be getting one of these to face the next rear end of a truck.
Joking aside, it is an original looking car that could grow on you and for once you can't accuse the Chinese automakers of copying an existing design.

ugly shoe, ugly car
jrejre @ Jan 2nd 2008 8:27PM
Maybe they actually made the car out of recycled crocs. Melting down every pair of crocs to make something useful is a great idea. Then I don't have to see those ugly things anymore. And it's good for the environment.
If you can't tell crocs make me want to vomit.

Please no cars that look like those god awful shoes. How can people be so cruel. It is bad enough we have to see their horrible sense of style but do we need the holes so we can smell their stinky feet too? Then again the type of people who wear these horrible Crocs and PJ's to the grocery store would probably be the ones willing to buy a chinese death trap if it's $1000 cheaper than a real car.
Rebecca @ Jan 6th 2008 9:35PM
In all actuality, Crocs are made from anti-microbial material and the holes provide ventalition, so no bacteria, no stinky feet!
Philip @ Jan 2nd 2008 9:27PM
I agree Pat, Mr Wang should be driving one of these, Original Chinese design at its best.
BartMack @ Jan 2nd 2008 9:48PM
I'm pretty sure I pulled a few of these off of my rose bushes last summer...
Matt Keller @ Jan 2nd 2008 10:45PM
I don't think it looks that bad.... Atleast it's not copying anything.
Temple @ Jan 2nd 2008 11:29PM
Its inspired by the GM-Daewoo sold in China, which its a rip-off of.
Cyx @ Jan 3rd 2008 6:25AM
No,the Chery does not copy others any more.Trust me!
Kevin @ Jan 3rd 2008 1:21AM
Bet the shoe would do better in the Euro NCAP tests...
Nick @ Jan 3rd 2008 3:55AM
LMAO!
Ilya @ Jan 3rd 2008 5:30AM
Man, I HATE those shoes with passion!
jgp @ Jan 3rd 2008 8:19AM
I love the color of the shoe, but the materials just look nasty.
Looks like cheap PVC. I can't imagine they'd be comfortable at all.
Marsha @ Jan 7th 2008 10:46AM
You have to try on a pair of Crocs to believe how comfortable they are!! Forget the PVC -- they feel like walking on a marshmallow. They're made from a closed-cell material that's neither rubber nor plastic. They don't absorb odors, and clean up with dishwashing soap and a fingernail brush! My daughter and I -- both with long-time foot and ankle problems -- wear nothing but Crocs any more. There are styles that even get us through northern Indiana winters! Others may laugh or ridicule them if they'd like, but I hope I never have to go back to regular athletic shoes. My feet would rebel!!
Noelia @ Jan 8th 2008 7:08AM
I thought the same thing until I tried a pair. They are so comfortable and I love them. And yes they are ugly!
Jeff @ Jan 3rd 2008 9:56AM
I think the S16 looks like an old Ford Contour. Or maybe an old Taurus wagon.
Yggdrasilly @ Jan 3rd 2008 10:57AM
CHERY
Disposable cars for expendable people.
Mallory @ Jan 3rd 2008 12:21PM
You guys are nuts - Crocs are awesome. Sure they look ugly but for someone like me who wouldn't wear shoes at all if I didn't have to, Crocs are the next best thing. They don't get that nasty smell that sandals do and they're waterproof so you can wear them to the lake, to Disneyland, or anywhere you might get sweaty or wet. No worries, just hose them out and they're clean and odor free as new. Sure they're not for you metro's that have an image to maintain, but if you're an active person that needs a warm weather, waterproof, comfortable, rugged, go-anywhere shoe then there's nothing better.
And no, I don't work for whatever company makes Crocs or sells them. Just a satisfied customer.
John @ Jan 3rd 2008 3:52PM
Will the Chery get caught in the mall escalators like Crocs do?
