Russian man lets activists throw rotten food at his H3
An intriguingly-named group of Russian environmental activists, "Peter Antiglobalism," wanted to make a statement about the pernicious effects of consumerism. What they needed was something they could pelt with rotten dairy goods and vegetables. What they got was a Russian man who agreed to let them throw the aforementioned foodstuffs at his HUMMER H3.The unidentified H3 owner has said he'll auction the vehicle and give the proceeds to charity. He gave no indication if this in any way signifies how he feels about his H3, HUMMERs in general, or consumerism -- but hey, it's a good deed for charity, so it can't be all bad. And if you're looking for a bargain on a HUMMER needing nothing more than a good detailing, you'll want to head Moscow way.

It's a fair good bet that he was not too impressed with his ride. Throwing rotten food at it is more than it deserved. A gasoline bomb would have been better. The H3 is a miserable and shameful excuse for a 'tough' offroad vehicle.

Shows that Russia like America has freedom of speech and choice. This is a good thing.

Yes, because of there's a demonstration I'd expect a neo-Soviet like Putin to quash under his heel, it would have to be anti-consumerist isolationists out to attack a symbol frequently associated with Americanism.
Wait, didn't we call those "communists" back in the day?
All this shows is that some Russians happen to dislike consumerism, which is well in line with Putin's goal.

Miguel we have the same type of people here in our country...they go by the name of "environmetalists". I have an SUV..."ewww i'm a bad person" and had those "anti-consumerists" put flyers on my SUV telling me I was destroying the earth. In fact our Govt. is also buying into this radical thinking. The mandated minimum 35mpg by 2020!
So there are close comparisons to Russia and here, in regards to this article. I feel we are headed in the wrong direction. :(

I agree with you, eric, on the extreme environmentalist-types. I'm a "conservationist," not an "environmentalist," and for obvious reasons. Yeah, make sure my local wetlands don't get horribly contaminated; I'll donate to your cause. But don't tell me what kind of car I have to drive--let me make my own decision with my own conscience and let history judge me.
I was just pointing out that "free speech" doesn't really apply here, as I'm sure it's the type of thing Putin is right giddy over, though perhaps not so hot on the "environmentalism" side of it.

A good detailing? I guess it depends on what they used and how quickly it was cleaned off. When my last car, a 2001 dark blue Corolla, was vandalized with eggs while I was out of town for two days, it ruined the paint for life.

Picked up my new 2008 H3 last night from a great dealer in the Detroit area, just in time for the latest snow storm of the century. What a great ride with the manual tranny. While all of the FWD and RWD sleds were either parked or skating around today, my family, dog and I were safely delivering New Years' baskets to the less fortunate. I didn't hear one person gripe about my fuel economy, the carbon footprint or bogus man-made Global Warming in the middle of the snowstrom while we were helping them dig out. Truly a great vehicle for anyone with a heart and humanitarian instincts. I think anyone who wins a Nobel prize should get a HUMMER thrown in as part of the deal.

The H3 is not really a environmental beast of a truck. If it were a H1 or a H2 on giant wheels maybe. The H3 just degrades the Hummer name.

Degrades it by continuing great stock off-road ability? Other than the H2, the ONLY truck capable of running 35's stock? The ONLY midsize SUV that can be taken off showroom floor and dominate MOAB or the Rubicon trails? A truck that has won year after year in desert STOCK racing?
Yeah, I figured, you've never done any offroading, nor driven ANY Hummer, nor do you understand %1 of the technology behind it. I can't blame ya tho, with a name like Evan Brom, you don't belong anywhere near the outdoors, your sensitive pale white skin might not take well to it :) Go buy a latte before you get frost bite on your trip to the Bahamas.
Anyway, about the article, they might aswell have egged a Jeep, gets the same (or worse in some cases) mileage. Atleast my Jeep and Yota owner friends will get a kick out of this on our next outing :)
The only real good these articles achieve is by clearly defining the nut jobs and the simply stupid from the normal, car/truck loving people.

Tell that to Rod Hall
...oh wait, you wouldn't. You'd probably choke up and and run away in fear.
IF, and that's a BIG if, you have your license, go to a HUMMER dealership and take a test drive (again, IF they allow you...) They probably wouldn't even allow you through the doors tho...
Anyway, looking at your recent posts, you've got some sick obsession with hating EVERYTHING GM puts out. I've never seen anything quite like it... scary, actually.

HUMMERs are awesome and great if you actually need one, but those soccer moms and rappers are just wasting energy sending kids (which a Honda Odyssey could do just as well) or "rolling" in them (which in itself is an arrogant and pointless exercise)

wow, your hummer could drive through snow?! fantastic! the '99 forester we own does just fine and we don't look like tools for driving it. history will judge you, it's just a shame you have to drag the rest of us down with you. enjoy your hummer.

Tonupdamien: You might be driving through 5 inches of snow, have you ever tried 1-3 feet and into 2 foot water streams? Of course you haven't, your car isn't built for that. No clearance, no angles. It's stupid to even discuss.
The only person looking like a tool is you, you sound like a doomsday alarmist. The world isn't going to melt, we're not going to drown, you'll be able to continue driving your 99 subaru (which probably gets worse mileage than an H3, considering its age...)
Now go donate to your messiah Al Gore, ya loon.
Get a grip

@4x4 "doomsday alarmist" or just an average middle class person who doesn't want to support other people buying irresponsible vehicles. why should i pay for your "right" to own whatever size vehicle you want? we're both buying the same gas/oil and we're both stuck with high prices...because people buy cars they don't need. my daily driver is ford focus zx3 and i should not be paying for your "right".
if you're rescuing people and saving lives in your 4x4, then fine, but i don't want to see you commuting to work on the freeway by yourself in your SUV.
go donate to your messiah thompson, he doesn't believe in global warming or dinosaurs! he's right up your alley.
you and your "anti-liberal", fox news watching herd are just plain scary.
4x4north 12:50PM (1/03/2008)
Ah, so it all boils down to your wallet? Trust me, if we were all driving Hybrids, the gas prices would still be rising. Believe what you will, I'm not here to change your mind. Quite frankly, I don't care what you believe, but it's your right to believe it.
Regardless, who are you to decide what someone can and cannot drive? Do you always judge someone simply by first sight of what they're driving? I can think of a few negative aspects of our history in which similar mentalities fueled some of our darkest moments. If you judge someone simply by what vehicle they're driving, what else do you judge others on, and is your apathy towards them as vibrant?
I live out in the country on a farm, our roads aren't maintained. Of course I drive on the freeway, alone and with passengers, would it make you happier if I stuck to the side roads instead? :)
I really could care less about politics, in my opinion any extremist point of view equals failure. Oh, and I hate fox news, same as I hate CNN :)
BTW, Dinosaurs existed, where do you think all our oil is coming from? THANK YOU T-REX!
