Don't forget to tip your waitress... with a car
There's something to be said for being nice to people, even when they don't return the favor. Melina Salazar, a waitress in Brownsville, TX, will definitely tell you it's worth it. She kept a positive attitude and a smile on her face when dealing with her most loyal customer, 89-year old Walter "Buck" Swords, who she described as "kind of mean" and less than enjoyable to serve for nearly seven years. It turns out Walter appreciated Melina more than she thought, and left her $50,000 and a 2000 Buick when he passed away in July - no doubt the best tip she will ever get for serving hashbrowns.

It goes to show, you just don't know what folks are going to do. When in college, I drove a cab. I had one customer who, every morning, took exactly the same ride. If we made a particular signal on the green, the fare was exactly $3.00. If it was red, the fare was $3.10. This man always paid the EXACT fare, never gave a tip at all.
I looked at the bright side: he always came by the cab company lot to get his ride, and by being "up" and getting him as your fare, it got you off the lot and out where you could find more fares to haul rather than just sitting.
One day close to Christmas, I got him for a fare. We got to his destination; the meter said $3.10. "Wait here, leave the meter running".
He reappeared about 5 minutes later with a very large box. "Take this back to the cab office. One each for the drivers, one each for the three dispatchers". By then the meter had gone up a bit. He handed me a $100 bill and walked away without another word.
The "one each"? Bulova Accutron electronic watches, which at that time were among the most accurate watches in the world, and which STARTED at $125.00 in 1970 dollars.
So, you just don't know.

You just don't know when the time will come. I sell milk for home delivery. Well a couple days before xmas I received a card saying that this person that I met(anonymous) couldn't sign up for home delivery service but they liked me for who I was and gave me a $100 gift card. It was very touching making an impact on someone. People always remember someones kindness. Thats my story and I'm sticking to it.

That was here in my hometown! People are really nice down here, but this is very uncommon anywhere you go. Really cool to hear about though. She is having a great Christmas.

The car was a LeSabre. Saw it on the news here in Houston. Amazing story!
I remember about a year or two ago, a wealthy man at an expensive restaurant in the area tipped a nice waitress with a new Mitsubishi Lancer. Unfortunately, it was the old-gen!

In New Orleans we just had the sugar bowl, Georgia Bulldogs Vs. Hawaii Warriors. Great people, and we are so happy for the great business. The best tip, was that so many from Hawaii, who traveled so far to New Orleans and for many the first time out of Hawaii, they gave so many people working at hotels, restaurants, boxes and boxes of the yummy chocolate macadamia nuts from Hawaii, that little yummy box for many of us was the
best tip ever. Ya'll come back to New Orleans anytime!!!!!

If you're REALLY from the South, and you went to school, you'd know that it's "y'all"........NOT "Ya'll".

For years now, I have been giving candy - usually a little chocolate bar of some kind - with my tips. You would be surprised how something so small can make a persons night! Some days, a bit of chocolate can be just the thing to get through the rest of a long shift. Many servers remember me from this, and I'm often 'paid back' with free soft drinks, and more attentive service. The restaurants I frequent all know 'the candy lady'...
