Ed Peper to ZR1 detractors: "Bring it."

GM thinks that the Corvette ZR1 is pretty much the baddest machine on four wheels, period. This was driven home today in a post on the Fastlane Blog by Chevy general manager Ed Peper. Seeing him advocate his brand's (and GM's) flagship is far from surprising, and as he rattles off the car's positives, it seems like pretty standard-issue public relations fare. It's only as he wraps up that he seems to get a little exercised over some folks' habit of turning all Corvette-related conversations into pushroad vs. overhead-cam arguments. In response, he namechecks some very heavy hitters -- the Porsche 911 GT2, the Ferrari 599 GTB, and the Lambo LP640 -- as he casually pulls the gloves off, matter-of-factly stating that the ZR1 has a better power-to-weight ratio than all of them. Then, in his parting shot, he dons the brass knuckles and calls out any and all comers who would challenge the Corvette ZR1's abilities with two simple words: "Bring it."
You know what it is when this kind of smack talk starts flying around? It's fun. And we haven't even heard from Lutz yet.

As the great 21st century scholar Duke Nukem would say
" Come get some!"

Oh yeah! It's time to kick butt and chew bubble gum and I'm all out of gum!
I am dying to see how this car performs!

Actually Duke was simply quoting Ash (Bruce Campbell) from Army of Darkness.

I've owned GM products before. No Thanks. I'll take the slower, heavier Nissan GTR over this thing.

It's a little silly to tar the Vette with the same brush as GM's other products. It is a totally different kettle of fish.

Pathetic, Nissan fanboy.
Reality Check 7:59PM (12/21/2007)
You do realize that things do change and Nissian has been worse then GM in every major publication and poll on reliablity?

Tragedy -
You look at quality and reliability scores lately?
This isn't an '85 Olds.

I have no idea how this post about sports cars turned into a GM and Nissan reliability argument. It's not like Ferrari's or Lambo's are known for reliability-in fact, once you're in the rare super-sports category it's pretty rare that any of the cars are going to be particularly reliable (except maybe the NSX-back when it was new and still considered a super-sports car).
Anyways, I like both the GT-R and the Vette, and they're pretty different sports cars anyway-one's a tour de force of technology, and one's a purist's lightweight and RWD classic sports car.

bet you wish you could afford either one

Yup.
I would say what I said on the other post but my comment might get deleted again ;)

I love this new attitude at GM ... this has to get the rank and file fired up when the high ups start publicly calling out the world best sports cars. It seems like the ZR1 might have the goods to back this trash talk up. Go Go GM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Andrew; It's either this or the GTR; I prefer Vette coverage
Andrew 12:43AM (12/23/2007)
I prefer the GT-R coverage.

I do love the Zr1. However, something tells me the 599 and lp640 are nicer cars to drive every day.

"And to those who question its capabilities or technical supremacy, I have only two words: Bring it."
I think he means performance wise it will take the lp640/gt2 to school.
And it doesnt take a genius to figure out that a 300k car is better than a 100k car.
