VIDEO: BMW 1-Series spot - creation by precision

The BMW 1-Series is on the verge of being sold here in the U.S., which means the multimedia blitz is on its way. With automakers getting more creative to capture buyers attention, spots are getting more high tech, and less reality based. BMW brass have recognized the trend, and the end result is a fanciful version of how the 1-Series is produced at the factory. Hit the jump to see the the :30 spot, which carries the tag line "Makes you want to get behind the wheel." While the commercial may not do that for us, the razor sharp BMW chassis and silky smooth 300-hp twin-turbo inline-six has us panging for a shot behind the wheel. Check out the gas fill up point just before the Bimmer takes off. That would beat the hell out of self-serve in the dead of winter.

I don't know why but this car reminds me of the Ford Anglia (100e) from the 50's ... is it that small!!

I like the ad. Every now and then BMW makes a decent commercial and this one looks pretty good to me.

This car looks fantastic, rides fantastic, is unique (RWD) and from premium automaker (i insist), so i guess the price is right.

I am a 2004 3-Series coupe owner and even I can't wait to test drive one of these!

Depends on what kind of 3 you have. The basic ones aren't sports cars so its apples/oranges. My girlfriend's 320i can't keep up with my WRX for the life of it, is fairly sluggish/heavy and its not so hot in the twisties - but boy, her car sure does creak and squeak! Kind of gives the car personality. Its a great secretary car. Though, hers is a 2003, so I guess its pretty old. After driving it I understand why she removed the model badging from the back of the car. Its no M or 1 series... As wary as I am from my BMW experiences, the 1 seems wonderful.

There is no such thing as a 2003 BMW 320i

Creation by precision?...More like creation by charging a ton of money.

Nobody's asking you to buy one.
Clinton 7:19PM (12/20/2007)
Actually, the commercial is asking him to buy one. That's the point of commercials.
Perhaps you meant that no one is forcing him to buy one.
JP 11:49PM (12/20/2007)
No. Actually the commercial is selling him or more specificlly telling him to buy one. No one is asking or forcing.
I thought the commercial was weak.... I do like the car but it will take something really unique and very special to get me to replace my 02 M Coupe.

Will we ever get the 5 door over here, or even a 4-door?

The price alone makes me want to get behind the wheel .......... of the competition.
That plus the fact that this car is plain ugly.

I just want more BMW films. BMW should have made more of them and made them more well-known. Best marketing/advertising move in the auto industry ever. (not in success, but in sheer coolness)

That price seems like its driven by speculation of demand and limited production ability. It's got the built in mark-up the dealers would normally get

Not sure if I liked this commercial. Worked in the automotive industry for some 8-years, I know that I've yet to see a car assembled that way. Very inaccurate.
Think about the safety liability of letting the public onto the assembly line. What would happen if one of those robots accidentally made contact with him. I can just image the lawsuit BMW would have on his hands.
All kidding aside, I'm not really a fan of the 1-series, only because it's so close in price to the 3. If they lowered the price and added two more doors, perhaps this would be my entry point into BMW's stable. Otherwise, I'll purchase a used '05 E46 with performance package.

From the commercial, i have gathered that the factory, like their cars has totally missed the fact that there is a driver in the car.

Are we sure commercials aren't suggesting people to buy things instead of asking them?
