2008 Tokyo Auto Salon: Mazda's three 'Speed-enhanced models

Mazda's presence at the Tokyo Auto Salon, the great aftermarket emporium in the East, will be marked with three Mazdaspeed concepts that should give us an insight into what's in store for the automaker's in-house performance arm.
The Atenza/Mazda6 concept we saw last week will be joined by hotted-up Axela (Mazda3) and Demio (Mazda2) models that receive a fair share of body enhancements and interior upgrades. Unfortunately, Mazda has yet to release an English language press release on its Japanese site and Google doesn't seem to be keen on providing a translation. However, we know that Japanese tuning houses, Ken Style and DAMD, had their hands in the development, so we'll see what's released when the show gets underway January 11 through 13.[Sources: Mazda, Carview]

The names are better than just numbers. Marketing probably decided that Mazda6, Mazda5, Mazda3, Mazda2 would be better to get the name Mazda stuck in people's heads. Demio is kinda cute? I don't know.
BTW, it's Axela.
Side note: I hope that side port/vent on the Demio/Mazda2 is functional and not for looks.

Any chance that the MS3 or MS2 will be had with non-FWD? The MS6 is a little big for my tastes, but I wouldn't invest in a FWD performance car.

Diggin the MPS 6 is every respect, but the 2 and 3 need some work. Chrome wheels? Garish as hell.

I agree. Chrome wheels, fender vents, white seats, and blue calipers need to go. Give the 3 AWD (but keep it inexpensive) and bring the 2 to the USA. Give the Fit and Yaris a run for thier money!

Wasn't that Alexa (Mazda3) concept seen before, only it was yellow then? I've got pics of it on my PC that I downloaded from somewhere back in January. It was called the 'Maszaspeed Alexa MS' then, but a web search comes up empty.

I second Benfolio on scrapping the fender vents, white seats, and blue calipers. I also don't like how gappy the wing is, and what's up with those slabs of black plastic tacked underneath? AWD on the 3 would be awesome. I thought a larger 5-point smile was in the plans, but this is pretty subdued. But over all, I like it. Hopefully this means a 'speed3 might be available for the '09 model year? Pretty please? :-)
