Last year General Motors swept the 2007 North American Car and Truck of the Year Awards, with both the Saturn Aura and Chevy Silverado taking home the honors. It looks as if the General has a good shot at repeating last year's sweep with news that four of the six finalists for the 2008 awards are GM vehicles. The finalists for the 2007 North American Car of the Year award are the Cadillac CTS, Chevy Malibu and Honda Accord, while the truck finalists include the Buick Enclave, Chevy Tahoe Hybrid and the Mazda CX-9. These six vehicles were picked from a lot of 54 new models that went on sale this year, and the winners will be announced on January 13th at the 2008 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The judging panel includes some 50 automotive journalists, including our own contributor John McElroy, who wrote about judging the vehicles in a previous Autoline on Autoblog report.
We're curious to know which car and truck you think is going to win this year, so feel free to vote in our poll below.

CTS and Enclave for me....
FireStorm @ Dec 12th 2007 2:05PM
agreed, CTS and Enclave

The malibu and accord put me to sleep
and i'm not keen on any of those "trucks"...but the Enclave has the better styling.

Oh, definitely the CTS.
Even Dan Neil (of the LA Times) loves the new Cadillac CTS. If someone like Dan--who has gone after GM many times--is going gaga for it, you know that this new CTS is a winner.

The Buick Enclave and Chevrolet Malibu. The CTS is a great car but the Malibu is a bigger seller in a more competitive catagory.

While i think the CTS is a shoe-in for sure, the Enclave & Tahoe might split the truck vote and give the whole thing to Mazda.
GM has a chance to sweep this thing two years in row and that is a testament to some of the great products coming from the General.
dan spalinger @ Dec 12th 2007 2:21PM
Someone still has to explain to me how the Enclave and CX-9 are "trucks"
FireStorm @ Dec 12th 2007 2:22PM
ah, one of those who doesnt believe it's a truck unless it's body on frame
dan spalinger @ Dec 12th 2007 2:24PM
Well, if not body on frame it SHOULD have some "truck" like characteristics otherwise, just call it a car...
geo.stewart @ Dec 12th 2007 2:36PM
Firestorm,
they are freaking station wagons. Just because someone decided to make them ride high doesnt change what they are.
they are not built on a truck chassis. They do not have a truck bed.
What qualifies any CUV as a truck?
Tahoe is on a truck chassis so I'll give it leeway though I argue its about the bed, but CX-9 and Enclave and Highlander and ... are station wagons.
if a truck bed, or chassis base doesnt qualify it for a truck, what does?
Brad Kempeny @ Dec 12th 2007 2:38PM
Agreed. They should come up with a separate category or something for SUVs/CUVs/LUVs;). The CX-9 is not a truck. A truck is not only defined by BOF construction- There's one other characteristic that I'm pretty sure only trucks have- its called A BED.
Another thought, why does the CX-9 even exist? We already have the CX-7. There's not that much of a difference between the two. Just another non- zoom zoom car from the supposedly zoom zoom automaker who really only has one true sports car- the MX-5.
dan spalinger @ Dec 12th 2007 2:38PM
Well said Geo...
compy386 @ Dec 12th 2007 2:47PM
Right... because the RX-8 couldn't possibly be construed as a sports car.
Clinton @ Dec 12th 2007 3:01PM
"Another thought, why does the CX-9 even exist?"
CX-7 = 2 rows
CX-9 = 3 rows

Kids, remember, people hate station wagons, so car companies have to market these turds as CUVs to make them look hip and cool, instead of tired and bloated.
toronado455 @ Dec 12th 2007 4:55PM
Agreed. CX-9 and Enclave ain't trucks.
Anti-believer @ Dec 12th 2007 2:34PM
Honda Accord and Mazda CX-9
Japanese's rule!

Your ass.

You are an idiot. I hope you were kidding
amastadon @ Dec 12th 2007 2:39PM
