Nissan GT-R to be SAE-certified at 480 HP
Since the introduction of the GT-R, Nissan has stated a horsepower rating of 480. However, that number actually refers to the Japanese-spec GT-R certified at 480 PS, which converts to 473 SAE horsepower. Apparently Nissan prefers nice, round numbers, and are aiming to bring the U.S.-spec GT-R up to 480 hp by the time it hits dealerships in June. Either that, or they just want to make sure its specs are on par with the Porsche 911 Turbo, which was used as a benchmark in the car's development. We doubt anyone would love the GT-R less without that seven extra horsepower, but we're not about to complain. No word yet on what changes will be made or how it will be achieved.

probably won't need to make any changes. As long as the test engine is within a certain percentage over/under the rating, they're fine.

Probably no engine modifications and equivalent power being put out by JDM and US spec engines. Nissan has always had a history of underrating ps numbers, also I've noticed that Japanese manufactures recently have been labeling hp and ps interchangeably; for instance in the Mazda 3, Sti, Evo X. A lot of it may have to do with the definition of 'horsepower' changing with SAE guidelines.

The car is boring, but the engine and drivetrain is very interesting.
I am hoping that this engine, like the VQ37, uses VVEL.
I thought I had heard that the 4.5 liter V8 was getting that upgrade, and a significant power increase for the M45/FX45 this upcoming year.
Personally, I would much rather see a G-coupe grand tourer with a 4.5 liter VVEL non-turbo engine making 350-400 horsepower with AWD, even if the transmission is behind the engine, rather than a rear transaxle. The G- coupe is far more sophisticated looking than the blunt, brutal, and almost crude lines of the GT-R. Over-exposure will die down, but the aesthetics of the GT-R are not going to get any better, unless it is re-styled.
I understand that some don't care about that, but some people do.
A G-coupe already seems like a fractional-price, asian-sourced Aston Martin proteg. With a good amount of 4.5l V8 power, it could be very cool. Sporty Grand Tourer, certainly not the same racing focus as the GTR, and a nice halo for Infiniti, while Nissan gets it's GTR. I doubt Nissan in Japan and other markets would complain too much about adding a V8 to the Skyline GT coupe, either...

I don't care how much HP this car has, it will never be a Porsche nor even a Corvette.
Atleast from a 6'3" perspective...fitting in small Japanese sports cars requires a small person.

I'm 6'5" and I fit way better in a 350Z, 240sx, mini cooper, civic, etc... than any American sports car, the GTO, GT500, and Z06 are all extremely uncomfortable for me.
GT-R>Z06 for me at least

Same... 6'4" here and I fit fine in the Z, the G37, and I've driven a couple old R32 Skyline GT-Rs that were perfectly roomy inside. Other than my knees being a little close to the steering wheel I even fit fine inside the old 1990s Corolla GTS and Acura Integra coupes, both of which I drove daily for about a year.

Time to put these silly "I'm bigger" stories to an end...
I'm 6'10'' and I can't even fit in an F350. My knees almost touch the ceiling, and my codpiece juts painfully against the steering wheel.
