This car has nothing to do with "old timers". It's one HOT car!! The auto designers recognize the feeling a great muscle car gives a driver. No bland "green car" averageness here. This is true Greatness a second time around!!

Indeed. 4,000+ preorders on a car no one has ever seen in person, let alone a few good pictures of the interior.
Insane.

An unpainted add-on rear spoiler...
How classy.
Good God...

umm, it's matte paint, not unpainted, it's similar to the 70 Challenger that they're basing it off of. I think it's a nice homage to the old car.

Remember, the name of the game in this car is retro styling. Back in the 60s and 70s, a lot of muscle cars came with very understated appearance packages, which is why you'll see Boss Mustangs with flat black rear window louvers, chin splitter, and rear spoiler, etc.
Nothing on this car is MEANT to be classy, in the Mercedes/BMW sense. It's meant to be muscular, and in keeping with the retro design theme, they're using elements from the original.
Ford did the same thing when they released the Mach 1 version of the previous generation Mustang. It had a flat black shaker scoop, just like the original. Why? They were paying homage to the heritage of the car, same as Dodge is doing here.
With that said, I like it, though I wouldn't buy one. I'm waiting for the next generation Mustang.

Paying homage to elements of a car that were just cost-cutting measures back then. Why not just slap on 14-inch steel wheels too? Lazy design all round, just like the retro Mustang. At least the Camaro looks modern.
Shipey 12:08PM (12/06/2007)
The matte black paint is not a cost cutting measure. It a cue taken from the Trans-Am racers to prevent sun glare off of the hood and spoiler.
Read some history before making uninformed posts.

The Chrysler SRT line is really a terrific package. Too bad they haven't created the aura of an AMG or M because it is probably the most powerful engine and nicest, cleanest appearance package for the money.
Also, it's really time for Dodge to get a better logo. The ram's head is so awful.

Tool,
Agreed. They should've resurrected this for the Challenger:

A "terrific package" with a torque converter automatic? Would you care to proofread your post, or did you really mean to say "terrific" there?
Tool 12:46PM (12/06/2007)
Yes. I'm saying that, in general, the SRT line is a "terrific package". And it is that, a trimline that does a great job for the money.
Whether or not it has a torque converter automatic is another discussion. There are those who say that a proper car must have a manual transmission. I get that.

I love the car. Being a child of the 60's (born in 1960), cars like this were what I grew up dreaming about. They are "cool".
With that said, I will probably not buy one because of the scum bag dealerships screwing over people with add-ons and extra dealer profit.
I absolutely have zero respect for dealerships and car salespersons. Scum of the Earth and are down there somewhere at the bottom of the well with politicians and slightly below lawyers.
Wait a couple years for the original owners to get tired of them and buy a low mileage used one for what the free market will stand.
Paying 10K, 15K, 20K to line some scumbab bas**rd dealership's pocket is just insane.

Congratulations, you contradicted yourself in a single post. Paying above sticker for one of the first ones IS paying what the free market will bear. Otherwise they wouldn't charge that much. If all the other dealers are charging over sticker, a dealer who doesn't needs more business sense. It is not illegal or immoral to charge above the MSRP, or to make as much profit as possible. A few nice Challenger deals will help offset everything else a Dodge dealer has to give away in order to sell. If you don't want to pay that price, just wait and it will come down to reality. Whining like a little girl doesn't make you look very good.

How can you make that judgment, have you seen a production camaro? All the challenger is, is a modern version of the old one, no retro design. The mustang has taken elements of old mustangs and made them new. Im also afraid the camaro design will be old by the time it hits streets, its been dragged around auto shows for 3 years now, and i have to wait another year for production to begin. give me a break.

Looks like they've changed the rear lamps after all. They are probably long/wide'ish pieces with matte black seperating them. Hopefully thats where the license plate will go.
