I was seriously consider this car but not able to seat 7 is really a deal breaker for me.

Go look at the Kia Rondo... not quite as sleek but probably a better deal if you need 7 seats.
I find the "introducing" part of this press release funny; they actually showed the new Mazda5 at the Tokyo Motor Show, but it's badged as a "Premacy" in Japan... technically I guess they're correct.
I doubt we'll see better mileage in North America, by the way, as we'll probably only get the same older 2.3L engine here... the mileage for that engine didn't change on the new model in Japan.

Why? It seats six in comfort--seven would be too many for comfort--it's just too narrow. Yes, the European version has it, but it's strictly occasional-use-only seating.
If you really need to seat seven people, this whole class of vehicle is not your thing. You need a full minivan, not a 5 or Rondo.
