Countless ways to configure your Clubman

Mini USA has launched its configurator for the Clubman, which means you can now see all of the accessories you never even knew you wanted. Take for instance the chrome bonnet scoop ($159), or the colored door lining ($250). It really starts to add up. Our dream Mini Clubman S complete with JWC accessories and no expense spared? $43,020. Ouch.
There are most definitely cheaper ways to buy a Clubman- the standard version starts at $19,950 and our Clubman S began with a base msrp of $24,100. Mini claims there are over 10,000,000 possible configurations, and with nineteen different wheels and three valve stem caps to choose from, we are inclined to believe them.
Thanks for the tip, Zack!

Can you configure it with the back door opening on the left, you know, so you can get out onto the pavement and not the road in, lets say, Britain, the place the damn mini originates from (and is built).

Can you configure it to be less badly proportioned and ugly?
Tull @ Dec 2nd 2007 1:32PM
I don't think so, I haven't seen the option.
blinkra182 @ Dec 2nd 2007 2:19PM
ROFL. thats a good question jeff...

I thought the rear passenger door was just on the stupid side for the US? Many (most?) in the surburban US rarely park on the street and don't have to worry about passengers stepping out into traffic.
What many (most!) US owners want is easy, driver-side access to the rear passenger seat, for things like, baby seats, groceries, random cargo. Forcing drivers to walk to the other side of the car to access the rear seat is ridiculous.
The barn door rear hatch is stupid as well, a standard up-opening hatch would be far preferable. But the wrong-sided rear passenger suicide-door is a deal-breaker for this prospective buyer.
blinkra182 @ Dec 2nd 2007 2:22PM
but if the rear hatch opened upwards, you would have to kneel to access the back lol.
lets face it, its a useless car.

43K??? I configured one for 39K.. and for that much money.. I think I'll take a certain widebody 5-door AWD hatchback instead.
*cough* STI *cough*
I guess I'm not target market for a clubman.
JayP @ Dec 2nd 2007 6:36PM
My son configured a Clubman for $45k!! US! And that wasn't even the S model.
Ridiculous.

The fiat 500 will wipe Mini off the face of the earth and that's that. It's cheaper, better and lets face it. It so cooool.
There is few cars that makes me smile like the cinquecento.
suede @ Dec 2nd 2007 3:33PM
Sorry, There are*
Chopper Dave @ Dec 3rd 2007 9:21AM
Except that "the face of the Earth" includes the US, where the 500 is, sadly, unavailable.

The FIAT might be a very nice looking car both inside and out, but I think it ends there. The Italians should have never decided to built this car in Poland. That country is full of bad memories and too many jokes have been made about that place. The Mini is made in G.B. and backed by BMW. Right there, is where I end.
CaptSnuffy @ Dec 2nd 2007 3:46PM
I just saw this car in person at the New England International Auto Show.
It's even worse than it looks in pictures. It is beyond ugly, it's ghastly.

Why do they nickle and dime u to death what a joke i am in the market for a new car but these things should start at 18k and not go beyond 25k. 2K rims for a mini JCW my ass.
I will just stick to my original 1969 Mini.
Rocketboy @ Dec 3rd 2007 8:45AM
Nickel and dime you to death? Because you can buy exactly what you want, and not what the package dictates that you get? Fine, stay in your un-evolved bathtub of a car. I'm sure you get a kick of your 12" Black and White TV, and your toaster that you have to flip the bread to do both sides as well.
GDUB @ Dec 3rd 2007 9:30AM
RocketGirl I Just think its a bit over priced for what it does esp at 43k, when i configured it my self i was at around 28k. I do like that u can make it your way but does it have to be overly expensive. No matter how you look at it its still a mini. Its like covering a yugo with gold and diamonds/crystals then charging 1 million for it.
"outrageous"
I dont know what a 12in Tv has to do with anything but old westerns still look great on it. Ps the old Bath tub still is a amazing handeling car. The original is still better looking than the newer generation of mini.
Black and White

Sorry, I did not realize I was responding to a total ass. My mistake. Let me know if you ever decide to hang out with the grown-ups.
British_Rover @ Dec 2nd 2007 7:34PM
I assumed there would be a way to eliminate those fugly contrasting C-pillars and there is not. Even if you get a black Clubman they force you into the silver C-Pillars.
I could live with everything else except that stupid contrast rear end. Dump that and I might buy one next summer to replace my 2004 MINI Cooper S.
