Evel Knievel dies at 69
We just got word that Evel Knievel died at the age of 69 from apparent liver failure. His personal website isn't loading up, nor is there any confirmation of Knievel's death on any of the major media sites. We'll keep you posted as we find out more.UPDATE: Yahoo! News has an obit on Knievel, whose death was confirmed by his granddaughter earlier today. The daredevil extraordinaire underwent a liver transplant in 1999 after a long battle with hepatitis C, rumored to be contracted during a blood transfusion after one of his spectacular crashes in his early years.
Our deepest sympathies to his friends, family and admirers.

He was awesome. He was the daredevil you thought of when you said the word 'daredevil'. He was truly the king, and will be missed. Rest in peace Evel, you amazed us all.

I grew up watching Evel Kenievel. He is the reason for my life of extreme sports. I used to set up boxes and a wagon full of boxes and ramps on both sides so I could jump them on my Schwinn Stingray Migit. Thanks, Evel, for opening up my life to challenging what most think of as impossibilties.

Dude,
I had the Schwinn Typhoon did the same jumps. If i can remember that bike must have been 200 pounds of iron and 50 pounds of paint. Dropped liked an anchor every time.
Long live Evel Knievel!

As I type this, an 8 x 10 autographed picture of Evel sits on a shelf behind me.
Evel was one of my biggest (if not the biggest) childhood heroes. He was a man that would decide to take on a challenge and then simply do it. He didn't care if it ended in failure or success, it was the act of tackling the challenge that mattered.
Long Live King Evel.

So passes part of my childhood. What red-blooded American boy in the 70's didn't have a Evel Knievel Motorbike crash set or stunt dragster?
I need to introduce the boy to Evel.

Evel Knievel was the most bad-assed mofo that ever lived. There will never be another like him. RIP

Some family friends gave me some cool Evil Knievel toy motorcycles when I was a kid. I wonder whatever happened to them. I bet they're worth some money now.

Who didn't build a ramp outside their house with a board and some bricks and then jump their bicycle off it and didn't think they were Evel Knievel for a brief moment.
People may have jumped farther and higher and knocked off double back-flips, but in the end, he started it all. The rest are just following his lead.

Truly great guy and amazing at the crazy things he did. I will say this though, that in his line of work 69 is pretty old. RIP, and prayers to his family.

A legend is gone! He was my hero as a young kids back in the 70`s (like every red blooded American boy back then) I had every single Evel Knievel toy, I even got the Evel knievel AMF "Motorcyle" bike one year for my birthday, and would jump the crap out of it, until one day the forks wouldn`t hold out any longer. EK was the true "Daredevil". Like someone else said, others have jumped farther, higher, or more dangerous jumps, but EK did it on a heavy HD motorcycle, with only a few inches of travel, not like these guys on super light dirtbikes, with tons of suspension! Godspeed Evel!
