For the 2008 NASCAR Sprint Cup season, Dodge has announced that it will replace the "Avenger" stickers on its Car of Tomorrow with the "Charger" stickers it had been using on its non-COT racers this past year. The announcement is loaded with flowery prose that name-drops Richard Petty and talks of the Charger nameplate's race heritage (the Intrepid era is conveniently overlooked). That, says Dodge, is why it was a natural decision to campaign the full-time COT as a "Charger." We think it's mostly because the "real car" version of the Avenger is lame. Seriously, we'd take an old Spirit R/T over a new Avenger R/T any day.

Thanks for the tip, John!

Nascar was interesting when you actually had stock bodied cars running, and you could tell a Regal from a Monte from a Ford, etc. When models became differentiated with the use of stickers, it jumped the shark (In my mind at least). I'll never understand the massive popularity of it. I'd sooner watch golf, and that's not saying much...

5.6 sec 0-60 Dodge Spirit r/t,I still have an old mag with a road test of the Spirit r/t,(7.1 with a 2.5 turbo auto)The r/t times vary from test to test because of the tire spin,no traction control on those cars like the old muscle/classic cars they spun the tires like crazy...well not as much as a 440 Charger but anyway...yes kids you dont have to hold the brake to do a burnout..

I used to run 14.03-14.50's with my 1992 Daytona iroc r/t in the late 90's (with the stock tires)so the Spirit r/t should be around those 1/4 mi times as weight is pretty much the same only off by 20 or so pounds as I remember, also the head was designed by Lotus, not Shelby...Yeah the Chrysler turbo cars were real sleepers.

Yeah dont know why they changed it to Avenger CHARGER sounds alot meaner anyways.

We're trying to combat people who steal our content by pumping our RSS feed into their shell sites. Since they steal our pics along with the content yet leave the hosting to us, we're attempting to replace all the hyperlinked pics on sites that steal our content with our request to cut it out. Unfortunately, we effed up our own site a little bit, but it'll be fixed in a minute.

I never understood either why Dodge wanted to showcase the Avenger in this arena. It looks so much smaller on the road then the Impala and Camry it races.

Also, at least the Charger is semi close to NASCAR with a V8 and RWD.

sorry to go off topic - seriously though, who cares - but i had to look up the Spirit R/T. I remember it being one of those insanely powerful, yet hopelessly crude turbo cars that chrysler built with Shelby's help. I found a page on allpar.com claiming it was the 'quickest' 4 door in the world in 1992. Quicker than the E34 M5? Quicker than the M-B E500, or the AMG 300E Hammer? i call shenanigans on allpar...

It very well could have been.

The 1st Generation Taurus SHO was by far a much faster sedan than just about anything out there, including what was being passed off as Mustangs and Camaros.

As with the Fusion, I wanna know where I can buy a two door Charger. I do not see any on the dealer lots round here.
I believe West Coast Customs sells those for around 100k a pop.

      Chrysler sucks anyway. Who cares?

Who are you accusing of stealing your content ?

Big deal. NASCAR with their unfasonable regulations has managed to create such a sameness among all of the competing cars, nameplates or name stickers could be changed at random without any great difference. How much more boring can it get?

its funny, because that car looks nothing like the avenger of charger at all.

Call it a camry, it wont make a difference
        • 7 Years Ago
Can't, sorry, it's already taken. :) Toyota already has an almost identically shaped Camry NASCAR.
