2008 Chrysler minivans being sold with incentives already
Perhaps the rhetoric coming from Chrysler that the market for minivans is alive and well is just that: rhetoric. The automaker's year end Event of a Lifetime sale happens to include its brand new minivans, the Town & Country and the Dodge Caravan, which can be had until December 3rd with $1,000 on the hood or long-term financing as low as 1.9% APR. Other Chrysler models included in the sale are the 300 ($1,500), 300C ($3,000, excluding the SRT-8), Sebring Convertible ($2,000), Aspen ($1,000), PT Cruiser ($1,000) and the Pacifica in both five- ($1,500) and six-passenger ($2,000) models. You can check out what Dodge and Jeep are offering, as well as any other automaker, on the Cars.com Incentive Page that's always up to date. [Source: Kicking Tires]

I'm already seeing some on the roads, but it looks like Chrysler flooded dealers with them. All my local dealers have a minimum of 20 on lot, and their lots aren't that big.

I feel bad for the company b/c i know how hedge funds operate. they will not innovate or help the companies finances. Chrysler is in a lot of trouble on this story is a part of the Chrysler problem. Cerberus only bought it so it can make a profit and they have their own ways of doing that, there was a good story in portfolio mag about that.

Oh yeah: the Focus is being sold with incentives as well, but I have yet to see any on the roads... Well, I saw two, but they had dealer plates on them (test drive).

Come to Michigan then. I see one those ugly focii every day when I drive home work. I see a couple new ugly Malibus every day too.

"ugly" and "new Malibu" don't go together, Dave (I'm aware that styling is a very subjective subject, but new 'bu = hot is usually a consensus between people).
Of course, you'd rather have spaceship-like automobiles (aka Toyotas of today and domestics of the late 90s), don't you, Dave?

Hey what's wrong with aerodynamic (spaceship like) designed automobiles? It's 2007 for chrissake. Ugly bland boxmobile styling should have died in 95. It's time for a more aerodynamic approach to automobile designs to at least fit with the millennium. I really hope to not see that the design of cars being same as they are today 30 years down the road.
If you want box like mid 80's caprice classic/ford LTD/CV styled cars then may i suggest a time machine. You can get them at your local hobby store. They require the deed to your house for a down payment.

Sorry, but this is way off the mark.
The incentives on the vans are only to ensure that Chrysler finishes the year ahead of Honda and retains the minivan sales crown.

Could be. It makes me kind of nauseous how rigid and stodgy the average minivan buyer is. The 90s Caravans and Voyagers were probably the least reliable minivans on the road, yet everyone kept buying them (my parents included, despite engine rebuilds and transmission failures before 70k). Last year's model was worse in every way than any other minivan on the market except the awful Uplander. I can't believe 2007 is the first year that they might be toppled when their vans have been crap for so long. Who knew soccer moms were so afraid of change?

The swing and electronic folding seat may be the biggest changes... what a boring face!

Dodge put big red incentive tags on their cars at the LA Autoshow and it made their display areas look like a cheezy dealership! I was pretty disappointed. Good way to "promote" the brand. I didn't even visit Chrysler, but I hope they didn't do that at their show area.

They did, in fact. My only photo from the Chrysler booth was of a "$500 Bonus Cash" sticker plastered on the side of a 300C. To think they used to have show-stopping concepts getting attention at these events. So sad.

I drive thru Auburn Hills, Mi everyday.
I see these things everyday.
I understand minivans, but this is really nothing special. It is a nice attempt, but just another minivan with swivel seats (if you pay for that expensive option) for kids to play with constantly and annoy you.
This is why I think Ford is on to something with their coming Flex. It is not another minivan and should really sell welll.

That thing is so ugly. The features are kinda...cool but ugly. I kinda think the old generation was better looking.

Evidently, it didn't take too long at all for the new Forester to be unveiled.

maybe if they did not look like bread boxes people would be willing to pay $35,000 for them.
Also, if the dashboard materials did not look like Rubbermaid vs. Playskool deathmatches, that would help.

The owners demand playskool dashboards. You ever tried to keep a car with 5 insane six-year-olds bouncing around inside of it looking good?

I fail to see the logic of having a constant price be the holy grail. With that logic, you'd prefer an ever-increasing price, it appears. In a capitalist society, bargaining and getting bargains, should be encouraged.

I'm not a minivan sort of guy, but I thought Chrysler had some of the best looking minivans until they came out with this one.
This one looks to be a redesign of the first gen Caravan/Voyager. Yuck!

The nose is more pronounced in order to make it more "manly". For some reason, adding ride height and a longer nose makes a vehicle more stylish in the eyes of the suburban consumer. I'll be darned if I could guess why, and I didn't believe it until I started hearing just that from people in this segment. They actually preferred the Uplander over the Sienna (!!!!) because of the nose.
People want nose-jobbed vans. Who knew?
