The rumors, the announcement, the official photos...none of it was enough to believe a once sensible company like Daimler-Benz could have created something so outrageously, ridiculously impractical as a six-figure, all-white, high-performance, partial-convertible, super-luxury limousine. Seeing it on video doesn't quite make it believable either. (It's kinda like the Moon Landing to conspiracy theorists that way). But short of seeing it up close and in person - which we hope won't be necessary - this is just about as close as we'd want to get. Okay, we believe, we believe. Just make it stop.
I saw this somewhere a few days ago, my only concern is how secure it is. I don't think the Maybach is designed to be a convertible so in an accident I don't think there is any protection.
i'm curious how that maybach is any more secure then any other factory B6 armored car? Additionally, it's laugh out loud entertaining. Any sit down chat with a Maybach sales person will inform you that Maybach won't offer an armored version because the car is already so heavy, thus someone producing a maybach laden with such an increase in weight makes me wonder if they have any concept of maintaining maneuverability and speed for driving out of harms way.
It just doesn't work for me with the full arch w/C & D pillar intact. Just looks normal from the side, and it's barely open from the back. It might as well be a targa.
And to add to the conspiracy theory stuff: I don't believe someone made a 'six-figure, all-white, high-performance, partial-convertible, super-luxury limousine'.
It's not a convertible unless it converts. I don't see the top coming up in this video. Until proven otherwise, I'm assuming it's a partial-roadster.
Nice concept, and I like how it evokes the landaulets of the past. But they could have at least given it SOME of the classic style of the old Maybachs before parking it next to one in the promo shots.
And if this is brought to the US, who wants to bet that 20 years from now we'll see someone turning one of these into a pickup truck?
I'd say that's almost a given, I mean pretty much anything these days is given to be chopped up into a truck. Although the key is having the price of the vehicle fall through the floor, so probably if it was a salvage title we'd see it faster.
This is my face. See how unimpressed it is? The cockpit looked nice, wrapped in black leather so it's not a total waste. Not nice enough for that kind of sticker
We really need to see the top going up and down, or at least see the top up in the first place. from the look it when stored, the top will be quite unsitely.
I must admit, I like the general concept. Those who prefer to be driven will appreciate still having some privacy from the driver, but the fact that you are still left with the sides of the rear and not a full convertible experience in the rear seems missing. I also imagine this vehicle will be quite loud. Here's hoping for a drophead limo.
I think the correct term should be safe not secure as safe implies crash safety versus safe implies bomb safe. clearly any car that has some sort of convertible functino will not be secure do to the fact that there is a giant open area where the target of any grenade launcher would reside. The point of the car is not security, but to offer some of that open air feel to those who prefer not to drive their vehicles and can afford this luxury.
Great. So now where am I going to hang the disco ball? Thanks a load, Maybach.
I especially like how they included a boot large enough to still hide me from the commoners. Now if only I could get side windows dark enough so that I didn't have to dirty my eyes looking at them.
Why all of the editorizing lately? And why is this any more stupid than the 1K plus HP sports car in the next post? Let's face it, neither relate to reality in any meaningful way.

On the other hand this thing is bomb proof:

540 some odd horsepower and a chassis/suspension designed for the extra weight tells me the car will be just fine.

So do rich, pompus jerkoffs REALLY wear their sweaters like that? Or is Maybach just perpetuating the lie?
Oh... and what a waste of resources.

I guess they do if they don't realize that it's 2007...

Mercedes jumps the shark.

Do you really think that people who ride in Maybach's wear seatbelts?

you can get the same "Landaulet" feeling from installing some nice lazy boys in the bed of a Escalade EXT or Chevy Avalanche.
Convertible Exelero please
