Craigslist find of the day: Lands Precedent, um, minivan? wagon?
The motorized monstrosity you see before you is a very rare 1986 Lands Motor Company Precedent. Only two were ever known to have been built, at a cost of more than $1 million, which 20 years ago was real money.
The Precedent might be considered an early hybrid, mating a Ford 5.0L engine to a Corvette rear end enclosed in a fiberglass body with Citroen doors. Inside, there's leather seating for six and, 20 years before Chrysler thought of it, rear seats that swivel! The interior is paneled in real rosewood, which, combined with the electric liquor-dispenser and minibar, makes the Precedent more of a tall, ungainly limousine than a tall, ungainly minivan. Back seat entertainment is provided by the period-correct, possibly black and white 8" television.
A Google search turns up very little information about either the Precedent or the company that built it, but some lucky Precedent collector (of which we're guessing there could be fewer than two) could take this beauty (a relative term) home for only $35,000! That's a $465,000 discount not even factoring in inflation.

Is that TV black and white or color? Does it hook up to a VHS or Betamax unit? Trying to decide what that's worth and up the ante.

"a cost of more than $1 million, which 20 years ago was real money. "
umm... that's real money today too.

Money doubles every 10 years. That means $1million back in the 1986 is actually $4million today.

Alright. Breathe. Bearing in mind that this was created in 1986, I've gotta say the aerodynamic work that went into the hood/windshield/A-pillars is amazing. Obviously, funding dictated the use of the Lincoln headlights (they were flush in therms of '86) and Citroen CX doors. I kinda like the rear light units being hidden behind the rear window. The wheels are so Golf GTI, though. All-in-all, this would'ave RAWKED in the late 80's.

Chrysler had a passenger swiveling seat option in 1959, 1967 & 1968.

I think the tail lights recessed behind the rear window are kinda cool!

Looks like a pretty hot party wagon. Swap that old tv for an LCD and stock up the bar and we're in business!

Now we know what at least one AMC designer was up to after he was no longer needed. It's alllll coming together now.

well, i'll bite on the glaringly obvious.
if it was built at a cost of over a million, and they're selling it for 35k, how is that a discount of 465,000? wouldn't it be 965,000?
either way, for 35k i can think of a few other cars i'd buy instead of this one. actually, this one may be pretty close to the last car i'd buy for 35k

That kinda threw me as well, until I realized that:
465K + 35K = 500K
If there were two built at a cost of 1 million dollars TOTAL, that would make 500K each.
...but it's worded like each one cost 1 million.

OH! now i get it. thanks for the explanation!!

I'm really liking the whole inside mounted rear lamp thingy. There's a Volkswagon eco-concept car that just surfaced that is doing the same thing. I hope this becomes an automotive trend for the sake of styling. Of course, I guess it really only works on hatchbacks, wagons, and minivans. But a cool touch nonetheless. guess it just goes to show that what's old is always new again in the automotive world.

Is the instrument cluster (the gauges part, not the wood) from an 80s GM pickup?

Could be. Come to think of it, they look a lot like the gauges in the 1980 Monte Carlo I had.

I actually remember unflushable this being featured in one of those one-page articles in Car&Driver or Moter Trend.
