We were as taken-aback as the blokes over at Autocar when they discovered that the new, Performance Pack-equipped, Lotus Exige S came with an optional cup-holder. "It can't be true!" we screamed to the God of Oversteer, but it is, and although it's as minimal as it can get, it still seems like a dilution of a car (and a brand) that's made a name for itself producing focused, lightweight weapons for the track. Mr. Chapman is doing donuts in his grave and we're left shaking our heads.

But if ever a cupholder stayed true to Chapman minimalism...
seoultrain @ Nov 17th 2007 2:28PM
great comment, totally agreed. Go commando and you've offset the weight of that cupholder.
Russell @ Nov 17th 2007 3:11PM
Who cares, besides a few that will actually own these.
paul34 @ Nov 17th 2007 10:41PM
Well, here's the thing. You're going to add a few grams if you actually USE the cupholder =/
mark.hinman @ Nov 17th 2007 2:12PM
How am I going to get my "Big Gulp" into that thing.
Chris @ Nov 17th 2007 2:18PM
That Cupholder is perfect, All it needs to do is hold a drink , it doesn't need to be dishwasher safe, it doesn't need to be insanely big, it just needs to hold a drink.
If you drive the car they way it was meant to be driven, you won't need the cupholder anyway.
graviton @ Nov 17th 2007 2:21PM
ahhhhhhh now I have a place to my brown paper bagged 40 ouncer of Colt 45...the racers drink.
Mike @ Nov 17th 2007 2:23PM
It looks totally kinky O.o
Ducky @ Nov 17th 2007 2:24PM
I really don't see what the big deal is... a piece of aluminum with a seatbelt strap that weighs like what.... 200 grams? Oh no it's the end of the world of Lotus as we know it... if you hate it so much don't get it, or just take it out. It doesn't even look like a permanent part of the car (probably just a clip on piece)
Jeff @ Nov 17th 2007 2:59PM
It's not the weight, it's the idea of bringing a drink into a Lotus in the first place.
...And the weight! That drink is probably 20 fluid ounces!
:p
martin @ Nov 17th 2007 2:42PM
true, it's totally kinky!
c**k ring! :D
Hank @ Nov 17th 2007 2:48PM
Would Mr. Chapman's doughnuts be chocolate glazed or Boston Creams? Either way, I'll take mine with a medium with cream & sugar. Thanks!

I seriously doubt that Old Colin had the slightest idea re. Dunkin Donuts, although he did reportedly have quite a few about little green men.
Tom Fjord @ Nov 17th 2007 2:49PM
I can't believe you just said that...
Elliott @ Nov 17th 2007 2:49PM
This reminds me of that Conan sketch where he's cruising around in Taurus and points out to a Ferrari dealer that he didn't have to pay extra for that feature. Hiiiiiiiiiiiiii-larious.

@Martin

Mike, Martin... That's exactly the same thought that came to me when I saw the picture! ROFL

If a car is going to be track only then I see no need for a cup holder. But this is a street legal car that because of its price point lots of owners will drive on the street more than the track. Quite frankly some owners will only drive it on the street, just for the prestige of driving an exotic. So I do see the need for a cup holder.
Personally, the weekend afternoon cruise is one of my favorite times to drive around town sipping on a soda and embarrassing vette owners because they don't understand what a modded srt4 can do. God I love palm beach county florida.
If I was loaded you better believe I'd do the same thing in an exotic, and it had better have a cup holder even if I do occasionally take it to the track.
steve @ Nov 17th 2007 3:12PM
You guys are totally missing the point. That's to hold the bottle you pee into so you can stay on the track longer.
hashiryu @ Nov 17th 2007 5:46PM
