Saleen isn't slowing down, despite company founder Steve Saleen retiring from the company earlier this year. The specialty manufacturer will release updated versions of its Extreme and Heritage models for 2008. Both will use a supercharged version of the 302 cubic inch engine found in the Parnelli Jones Limited Edition Mustang that
we drove last year. The upgraded Heritage model, dubbed the H302 SC, will have styling cues from both the PJ and the previous Heritage model, as well as a functional shaker hood that sucks cool air into an air box directly above the supercharger. Each will have more horsepower than any of the current Mustang models, and the Extreme version is rumored to have north of 600 ponies pounding the pavement. All models feature Saleen's Racecraft suspension, upgraded Saleen brakes, and more.

Please note, "Saleen launched", not Ford. This is not a Ford variant.

is it possible to saturate a market with "specialty" and "limited edition" Mustangs?
Seems like there is going to be more aftermerket mustangs than there will be factory models on the road.

I am with you... All these tuners and specialty shops...they could do other cars. I can't believe how many specialty Mustangs. It would be interesting to make a list: Bulliet (spelling), GT500, GT500KR, Saleen, Roush, Shelby California Edition and on and on... It' just one car and not even THAT neat of a car in my very very humble opinion... Just a car that looks pretty good/tough and easy to add power and body work and other parts cause it's pretty simple...

Not if people are still demanding and buying them!

Everytime a Mustang variant comes out people have to complain about how there are so many variants. Isn't that just as tiring as the variants themselves?

A-fukn-men! Finally...someone on here with some V8 brain power. Thanks for posting what I'm always thinking.

I'm sure there are a few car companies out there that wouldn't mind this "Variant Problem" the Mustang enjoys. Saleen being one of, if not the best example. I enjoy the whole thing.

The challenge was posted yesterday and I'm sure you guys did this to spite everyone.
And yes people don't have to read the article because it has to do with a Mustang....but all we are saying is.......some people would be annoyed if every day there was a STi article or Honda Si article or Camaro article, etc.
I am curious, why is it, everyday, I need to see the word Mustang in a header? A little suggestion if you will: Take all the articles you want to write on the beloved Mustang and announce a Mustang day out of the month so that we can avoid the site on that particular day.
It's not so much that I hate the Mustang, but you guys are leaving me with few options.

Just another day here at MustangBlog. I'd love to see this site take up the challenge. They'll have to try again tomorrow though since they failed today.

could saleen please make that front bumper without the splitters. I argee there are many variations. I think ford could cut down on the factory variants, but the aftermarket ones are real nice. John P. has it right, there are other cars that can only wish they had this problem

Mustang articles may be overplayed, but this has to be one of the nicest examples of the car.
The PJ bumpers were the coolest. GT500 lower with GT upper, and I even like the splitter in the headlight. There are black aftermarket split-beam headlights that would look very slick with those splitters on the front.
The hood with the heat extractor vents looks nice, I am not a fan of the rear treatment on the Saleen S series, but the PJ one with the retro pedestal wing, and the license plate in the blackout panel, with a simple chrome trim ring was very slick.
I also like Saleen's slick glass roof.
Throw an aftermarket SLA front, and independent rear suspension on that car, interior materials upgrades, chassis weight diet, with the 5.0 Cammer engine as gravy... is one possibly very slick car. I'd take one of those over a new Shelby any day.
Too bad that for that configuration, it would probably cost at least twice what a GT would... and gets into territory of lighter, more expensive cars, like Cayman, M3, and Corvette.

I agree with all the variants as well. When the Camaro hits I hope they dont have that issue, not that they ever did. It would be nice to see a base Camaro, the Z28, an SS, and possibly something that trumps the SS thats specialy. Thats all you really need. Ford has this issue with their F-150 as well. Take a good thing and make it 9 different ways with the same sh** under the hood. Another example of rebadging over and over again.

I guess ford should do like chevrolet and power their f-series with an inline five, it has worked well for the colorado and the hummer, another marvel of engineering by chevrolet. The reason there are so many tuner mustangs, because unlike the camaro, and the challenger, it is a great platform, that is well priced. Not too heavy and too expensive.
BLK-GT-STANG 10:41PM (12/21/2007)
Mustangs kick ass. You cant beat the performance for the price. All that money you can save instead of buying vette, put that into a GT and blow the doors right off of it.
