GM trademarks the name Vapor

GM recently filed the appropriate trademark paperwork to ensure it gets dibs on the name Vapor as it pertains to motor vehicles. However, there is no indication of where GM intends to utilize the new moniker. That means, for now, that the Vapor remains nothing more than vaporware, although we're hoping it carries a Saturn badge when it finally comes market. The Saturn Vapor; it sounds like a cloud of poisonous gas, and who wouldn't want to drive that?
Thanks for the tip Mork!

looks like a compilation of different volkswagens...
If GM were to make something like that, it would DEFINITELY have to be a saturn

That'd make me sad. IMO Saturn is the best brand GM has right now.

Perhaps, Vapor as in the harmless water emissions from a fuel cell.

That pic is of the old Saturn CV1 concept from around 2000, 2001. The name literally stood for "Concept Vehicle 1," since it was Saturn's first. You can see the cues that later saturns (VUE, ION) used from it. Kind of random of Autoblog to use it for a pic, IMO.

they probably used it because there's "vapor" in the rendering

The GM vapor. Heh.
Great name for a company that's been keeping itself in the spotlight by way of vapourware for decades.

Vapor is what they should call the Volt.

Exactly. GM has had the WORST car names of the last couple decades. Cobalt, Lumina, Prizm, etc... and that's just off the top of my head from one division!
Here's a blast from the past:
GM to Drop Model Names to Appeal to Younger Demographic
Say goodbye to the Grand Am, Cavalier, Tracker, S10, Seville and some of the other model names you're used to. General Motors is ditching the names over the next three years in hopes of gaining a younger market of car buyers. It's all part of GM's road to recovery. The automaker is hoping new model names like Cobalt, Equinox, Colorado and Canyon will feel different enough to consumers that they'll be willing to pay higher prices.

Vapor? Being an IT person, the term 'vapor' makes me think of something that is a lie made up to deceive consumers. Not exactly the way I would want my product to be perceived. I looked up Vapor on dictionary.com and found:
6. Archaic.
a. a strange, senseless, or fantastic notion.
b. something insubstantial or transitory.
7. vapors, Archaic.
a. mental depression or hypochondria.
Vibe is bad enough, but please tell me GM is smart enough not to name a car Vapor. Please.

It'll have to be used for a fuel-cell vehicle. It makes sense for that...I doubt they'd use it just for an ordinary car.

Next, they should trademark "Unobtainium" since that is what the volt's batteries will be made from.

Well give GM credit...if they'd took the name they really wanted "Vaporware" it would be too obvious. By only taking Vapor they think we are all fooled.

Was "Fart" already taken? That's a horrible name.
