It has a much nicer interior then its competition and rides really nice. I own a 2001 Lexus GS430 and the RL was much nicer then my car. It is nicer then the newer GS too and has a nicer interior.

I think it is strange how many people here quickly dismiss it and then think the competition is so much better. I have been in and driven all the competition(5 series, E class, M45, GS, A6) and when you actually compare the cars and what you get and not name brand and prestige the RL is the better car and better deal, it has the nicest interior of them all and that is where you spend all your time driving your car not on the exterior. Also I see plenty of RLs all over so they are not super rare. I ask to honestly say what the competition has over the RL when you are just considering the actual cars. Aside from v8 options they don't really offer anything else nor do they do anything better then the RL. The 5 series has no more interior room, the Lexus GS has less and feels cramped. The Infiniti M and Lexus GS have not been selling that well either and the GS was put on Consumer reports not recommended list. Getting a similiar Merc or BMW optioned out like the RL will easily cost 5-10K more and you have to deal with a horribly unrealiable even when you pay more compared to the RL. Sure the exterior could use some spicing up but so could the Lexus GS which looks like a Nissan Maxima and the Infiniti M which looks like a Nissan. I don't find the 5 series attractive inside and out. The RL is a great car, people discounting most likely have never driven or even sat inside the car and under some kind of dillusion that the competition is really better.

lexusgs

Comments on In the Autoblog Garage: 2008 Acura RL

Eesh. It's not a pillowy as (and is more expensive than) the Lexus ES, isn't as sporting as the M and 5er, and doesn't have the brand cachet of the E-Class or Lexus GS.

It's still an excellent car, but it really does suffer from "the Acura RL? Oh yea, right, forgot about that one". It doesn't help that the TL offers 90% of the appeal for a lot less, either. Honda needs to polish the halo a little, be it adding hybrid power, or just stuffing a bigger engine in.

Now, all that being said, if I had the money, this (or a VW Passat) is what I'd buy. It's nice to be in, nice to drive and doesn't draw attention.

psarhjinian

Comments on In the Autoblog Garage: 2008 Acura RL

Honda's midline Acura, the TL has almost identical interior dimensions to this car, is faster in Type S form and 10K cheaper than this optioned out.
